Hi Everyone! I am also new to the forum, but not to diabetes. I was diagnosed with type I in 1990 (at age 12). I've really struggled over the years with testing and my A1Cs have reflected that. My most recent A1C was in the 9s. I have used a Medtronic Minimed Pump for 10 years (although not as well as I should have). I am finished playing Russian roulette with my health and have committed to improving my health through tighter control and weight loss. I'm really excited to have found this group. There are so many good role models here! I hope that I can share some great success with you all!

Start: 318lbs (4/11/11)

Mini Goal #1: 299 lbs

Mini Goal #2: 287lbs (10%)

Mini Goal #3: 240lbs (25%)

Hi Everyone - I am also new to the team, but not diabetes. I have been T1 for 22 years and have been on a Medtronic Minimed Pump for 10. I have a 3 year old son and REALLY need to get the 40lbs I gained being pregnant OFF. I managed to keep my A1c at 5.2 for my entire pregnancy but now can't get it under 7.3. I think the extra weight is adding to my problem (and to my embarrassment as I wasn't very small to start with). I look forward to learning from you guys!!

Thank you so much!!! Didnt realize that I ranted so much!! I am sure I will have tons of questions!!! Compared to you guys I am a "baby" diabetic. My type 1 was an autoimmune onset and my A1c was 13.3 when I was diagnosed in April 08 (at 36 yrs old)...the lowest I have had it since was 7.5 and now Im back up to 8. I wear an insulin pump (still learning everything I can do with it) and a Dexcom cgm...this has opened my eyes greatly!

I really appreciate your responses!!
Thanks again!

Hi Kristina, welcome to the team! My name is Roslyn and I have had type 1 diabetes for 30 years with no complications! We are all here to help one another and I do know from personal experience it can be tough sometimes. I wear an insulin pump/cgs and my last A1C was 5.7 and pumping has made my diabetes so much easier to deal with. When I was first diagnosed there were no test strips or glucose machines so I just taking insulin hoping for the best. Now this disease is more manageable and I am not playing the guessing game anymore. Diabetes is not a death sentence, the more you educate yourself about it, you will feel so much better. I am an A1C champion and I teach classes on diabetic care, please contact me if you need help with anything!!

Hey Kristina! welcome to the team. I am Carey and have been a type one since I was 6. I am a paramedic going back to college for more schooling since the first two yrs weren't enough lol. I am bridging to RN and then going for my NP. Diabetes is a lot to take on and if you are not careful it is easy to get into slumps where your control is less than sub par. Personally for me I have had it for over 22 yrs now and there is really not a time that I don't remember being diabetic so in a sense I am kinda lucky to not really know the difference. I use a pump and cgm for my diabetes care and love it! It has really given me tighter control with my last a1c being 5.9! You can do this and it will make you stronger in the process. Good Luck, Carey

Hi there! My name is Kristina and I was diagnosed with Type 1 not quite 4 years ago. I am 38 yrs old. I am an RN on a NeuroTele unit. Ugh I always wondered why my patients were so noncompliant, now I am one of them....Im tired of it, Im not sure where I am going with all of this. I am scared because when I wake up in the morning with a blood sugar of 500 (yeah, its all behavorial) I am far from a panic...I do not react the way I should....I know the results of my type of noncompliance but I find it hard to keep up with my own care. Anyway, I joined this group to hopefully find some balance for me with speaking with other type 1 diabetics.

when I was first diagnosed the Endcrinologist looked at me and said, kristina you are fat, welcome to type 2 diabetes...even tho my onset was all type 1 ish, and there is not 1 diabetic in my entire family ...anywhere....I was angry, insulin was the enemy ...then I moved, actually had tests done and found out that Im type 1...and now insulin is my friend....havnt accepted that yet I think...I spent 3 years thinking if i would get this weight off that I would get rid of diabetes...now im stuck with it forever....oh wow i went on much more than I thought...sorry...Im looking forward to learning with you on here
