I'm right there with you. I'm 44 and have had T1 since I was 27 (late bloomer). I am definitely a slow loser (even joined a spark group by that name), but have been able to lose 5 lbs over the last 6 or 7 weeks. It is frustrating, and I'm pretty convinced that my middle aged diabetic metabloism, and taking insulin, which is a fat storing hormone, isn't helping things. But it is possible, and letting myself continue to slowly pack on the pounds like I have been doing had to stop. One of the things I did was to create a snack category for "treating a low". That helps me not get as frustrated about having to eat to treat a low because I can see that it's really not that many calories (especially if I treat using glucose tabs). Anyway, you're not alone, and we might as well enjoy the jouney, cause it may be a long one :).

And it only gets harder as you get older! I've just turned 50 and I'm frustrated with how difficult it is to budge a pound.

My best weight loss was when I embraced Dr. Richard K. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution (name of his book) and dropped my carbs to 30 grams a day. The weight fell off but unfortunately, when I added carbs back to my diet, the weight came back.

If you've never tried low carb, it'll knock the pounds off quickly, you won't be hungry, and your blood sugar numbers will be great.

I'm now doing a walk/run program three days a week with friends, which helps with the motivation. Need to add some weights next. I'm dropping my carbs back to minimal levels. Bread, pasta, potatoes and other carbs don't taste as good as being slimmer and healthy!

Good luck! The pump is a great tool for any dietary change. Don't forget to use temporary basal patterns for exercise or as a great way to catch a low before it becomes lower.

Hi Heather
I would love for us to keep each other motivated. It makes it easier when you have people to help keep it going. I have started this past Wednesday Aug. 4 with really watching what I eat and excercising again.

You guys have fun on your camping trip this weekend..
Good luck!!!
Vicki

Welcome, Vicki!

I'm right there with you, girl. I'm 36 and have been diabetic since I was 13. Started pumping in 2001, and had my daughter, Allison. I had dropped down to 125 lbs without even trying (if only I could do that again!) and stuck at about 135 after she was born. After a miscarriage and then the birth of my son, Bryson, I found myself at the heaviest I've ever been- 172 at one point. I have been stuck around 162-165 for what seems like forever now. You are so right about it being harder to lose weight for a diabetic. I get so frustrated! Maybe we can buddy up and help each other through this whole thing. My goal is to get down to 135, but right now, I'd be thrilled just to drop ten!

My daughter and I both have been sick this week, and we're going camping this weekend, but starting Monday I've gotta get back on track! Best of luck, and hope to hear from you soon!

~Heather

You CAN do it!

My Progress Bar seems to show no progress. Daily Weigh-ins over the last couple of days drop two but gain back two, net zero. However, on the plus side, I've managed to increase my fluid intake to 8 glasses a day. That accounts for the gain back, but healthier lifestyle.

My name is Vicki. I am almost 31 (next week). I have Type 1 diabetes and have been for about 24 years now. I have been using a pump for about 6 years or so. I def. like it better than taking all the shots I was taking before that. I have been married for 10 years to my wonderful husband and we have a beautiful little girl who is 5 years old and will start kindergarden in 2 weeks.

I am trying to get my sugars under better control and lose weight so I can feel better. I need to lose about 40 pounds. I think it is harde as a diabetic to do this but I know it can be done. I am hoping to get the info and support from this group to help me along my journey.
