Hi Brittani,
I have had type 1 diabetes for 29 years. I have been on a pump for almost 15 of those years. I also wear the medtronic cgm. I have worn omnipod too. I can honestly say, if you do go on a pump, you will love the freedom from pens and shots. You should be very proud of your A1c. The first year of diabetes is always the hardest because there is so much to learn. You have done very well in your short time with the 'beetus! Welcome to the team.

Hi Brittani! emoticon
Diabetes is a challenge (I think daily) but I feel very fortunate that we have a venue such as this to get some of the support that we need. I cannot imagine how overwhelming being diagnosed with diabetes is. You seem to already have a great attitude towards your diabetes with a touch of reality. I have been a brittle diabetic for almost 30 years and it took me a long time to even look into getting a pump... now that I have, I love it. The only advice I can really give a newbie diabetic is make sure that you respect and can talk to your endocrinologist. I feel that makes all the difference for me. Good-luck!

Hi, Brittani!

My name is Heather, and I've had T1 for 22 years and have been on the pump the last 9. I started the minimed about a year before getting pregnant with my first child and it has allowed me to maintain such good control that I have 2 healthy children and NO complications! If you are interested in the OmniPod, check out their website- not sure what the exact URL is; just google it. They will send you a sample pod to wear with saline before you comit. They also have a second tubeless device to use for CGM. Diabetes does suck, but fortunately, it can be managed!

Good luck, and feel free to email with any questions.

Hi!! Welcome to the team! I'm Allison and I've had type 1 for almost 15 years... I'm 22 now. Congrats on your awesome A1C! It's definitely a difficult condition and I can't imagine being diagnosed at this point in my life but it sounds like you are doing great.
I'm on a MiniMed Paradigm pump but am looking to upgrade to their new CGM system because it's been awhile since I've gotten something new. Pumps are just awesome since they give you SO much freedom! (I sorta remember shots and they are not fun!)
Sooo welcome again and go Bucks! (Love your pictures!)

Hi! I'm Brittani, a newbie Type 1. I joined SparkPeople back in January and just now joined the Type 1 Diabetes team. I didn't even know there was one! So I'm happy to be a new member and hope I can help other new members, but also hope to have a place to talk about the issues and questions and randomness that sometimes seems to happen. I was diagnosed in November after being in DKA. I believe at one point my sugar was above 600. I'll be honest, it was really hard and pretty random and I've had a pretty hard time with it. But I'm starting to move on and be ok with it. I'm able to keep my sugars in good control. My A1C three months after the hospital was 5.6%! So I must be doing something right! Currently, I am still using the insulin pens, but am looking at switching to a pump in the summer. I really like the omni pod (tubeless) idea, but don't know much about it. I would also love continuous monitoring.
Anyway, I'm glad I joined and can't wait to dig in!

Thank you team!
