Hi Caroline!! I'm 22 and have had type 1 since I was 8 so I also don't remember what it was like not to have it. Since I've started eating better and working out so much more, my numbers have been awesome - actually, a lot of lows, so my pump has been adjusted many times!

Anyway I definitely have extra fat around my stomach. According to my measurements I've lost several inches from that area, but it doesn't feel like it!! It is possible, just don't give up.

Let me know if you have any questions - I've had a pump for 12 years. :)

Hi, my name is Caroline and I'm new to Sparkpeople. I am 24 years old and have had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 20 months old. I see this as a sort of blessing because I don't know what it's like to not have diabetes. If there is one thing that my doctors have always told me, especially because I have diabetes, is that I need to exercise! My A1Cs have always been under great control, but exercise would help even more.

My goal is to lose the what I call "diabetic pooch." Its the extra fat around my stomach from taking insulin injections for so long. Does anyone else have this? I'm guessing its scar tissue. I am on a pump now, so I can now start to lose this weight. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself, and sorry this message is kinda long! :)

Caroline
