Hi Beth and Jennifer!
Welcome to the both of you! emoticon

Jennifer- I don't think it matters what "kind" of diabetes you got stuck with, as long as you get something out of being here we're happy to have you! We've got mostly type 1s, but I know there's at least one type 2 and handful of parents and significant others who aren't diabetic themselves but are closely affected by those of us who are. We don't discriminate here and we're happy to meet you!

And Beth, welcome also! Let us know what you find that works for you, if we all knew everything already we wouldn't be here.... Personally, I'm not excited by regularly scheduled exercise, and the thought of doing something (like boot camp) every day drives me batty. I'm more for outside exercise, but sometimes it is a challenge to fill my pockets with enough snacks and my glucometer and anything else I might need and not be so weighted down I can still jog... I'm getting better, but my numbers after are in need of improvement (regularly swinging between 60 and 300 for the next few hours, GRRRRRR).

Good luck with all of your goals in the new year!

Hi everyone! Beth here. 38 years old and I have now been diabetic for half of my life. I was diagnosed at age 19. I have always done pretty well. I have two children who are 9 and 10 years old. I stay pretty busy and active. Trying to get back on my pump. I was off it for about 6 months and using shots, but I need the tighter control and convenience of the pump. I am using the Omnipod now, but usually have some skin reactions that make it a little hard. Well, I want to loose some weight as my BMI is higher than it should be. I started Jenny Craig 2 weeks ago and I really like it. I am losing slowly due to the holidays, but I have cut way back on insulin and carbs. I hope to get to know some of you an find out how you deal with weight loss, exercise, and pumping. I joined the Boot Camp team and I am starting with with exercise program tomorrow. Any one here want to join Boot Camp and compare notes on blood sugars and exercise? I'm new to Spark People, but from what i see so far it looks really cool and I think the tools and social networking it offers will be just what I need to help me make some significant changes. Good luck everyone! emoticon

Hi! My name is Jennifer. I just joined Spark about a week ago. I was diagnosed with Diabetes 13 years ago when I was 19. I've been looking for information on Diabetes on Spark and it all seems really basic and I'm surprised they don't have meal plans for diabetes so I started looking for something to support my efforts on here that also knows the challenges of trying to lose weight while using insulin. And I found this group. I do not fit the profile for either type 1 or type 2 diabetes. I guess you could say I'm type 1.5 as I need insulin to maintain good control but also respond the oral medications and I was a young, in shape, and active adolescent when I was diagnosed. When I was diagnosed 13 years ago doctor were unsure of what type I had and they continue to treatmy symptoms with whatever treatment works best. I joined this team because after looking at some of the other Diabetes teams I feel this is the best fit for me. I hope to get to know you all and provide support to each others challenges.
