Hi Randy,

You have done an awesome job!!! I am totally ashamed of myself for whining after reading your post. I brought myself of Total Gym Fit a few months ago but can't use it because I always seem to hurt my knees as I have NO strength at all! So I have put it away for a while until my knees are better. I tell you, I work up a sweat just trying to get down on the total gym and back up...its a workout just doing that! I had no idea I was in such bad shape but now I have more of an incentive to get in shape. I hope to retire in a few years and I don't want to be not able to do anything. Anyway, continued success to you and I will pray for you that your COPD will get much better or go away completely, if that is possible. I don't post often but was compelled by your message...sometimes you read something that makes you want to shout! Take care!

Evening everyone, i was just given a Total Gym1800 club from my mother in law. Our nephew(her grandson) died in a car wreck early last year, On Friday we went over and dug it out of her garage full of cobwebs and spiders and a box of accessories but no paperwork or exercise guide...so when i was cruising thru the teams i was happy as a clam when i seen this team.
I have been on Sparks for awhile now, was at 378lbs and now down to 318lbs at my last weight in. I have COPD and was diagnosed with diabetes but have since my last blood work(early in the year) my diabetes is in control and i am off of my meds for that. blood pressure was a problem but since i have lost the weight that has been defeated also. i still have the battle of cholesterol to deal with, neurothopy is another problem that i have and am taking meds for that but only time will tell about that...
I also have a stationary bike that i ride daily in the am as part of my exercise routine, i am up to 42 minutes a ride and log in almost 9 miles daily...even with a oxygen hose attached to my face..a ab lounger sits on my patio that i am using about 3 days a week and a bowflex gym down in the basement that was torn down getting ready to get moved to my nephew house when he had he wreck, just haven't had the heart to put it back up yet...it will come...
I reside with my wife of over 27 years in Columbus Ohio and am disabled but not dead..had a stroke in 2011 but got to the hospital so the only damage to me is my memory...that is why i write everything down that i want to remember more than ten minutes from now...LOL
two sons one married living in town and the other in his third year at Bowling Green State University here in Ohio...one dog and one cat are the kids now...the cat has the run of the house and the dog knows it...well time to go walk the yard...i do that about three times a day to build my breathing up...

WOW, what a wonderful story!!! I have to tell you, I have lately felt as though I will be in a scooter soon because of my weight. My ankles, feet, knees, hips are all letting me know they can't take it any more. I am highly motivated to get this weight off. I'm also 5'7, so we have that in common. I will set it at the lowest setting as you suggested and start there. I've got to see which dvd has the easiest beginner's program and I will get right on it. Feel free to add me as a friend and I will add you! Thank you so much for your help.

To answer your questions:

If you are new to the machine ..Total Gym.. I would recommend you start at the lowest level and work on form and technique an develop 'muscle memory'! Study the machine and how it works as well as how you can work areas of your body with it before going up inn levels! This will help you to make sure you are doing them correctly so you don't get injured or strain yourself too much at first. We all know what happens when we do too much at first.. we tend to burn out quickly! This way you build strength and confidence as well! The higher levels will come in time!

I WAS in a wheel chair and rode an electric scooter.. cane/crutches in the home as well as a walker.. I was 267 pounds and I was 60 inches around the middle (FIVE FEET) and I am only 67 inches tall 5 feet 7 inches) I now walk 1.5 miles a day and do SO MUCH around the house/yard!

Feel free to add me as a friend.. send me a note and I will add you if you don't mind!

Hello everyone! I haven't gotten on my Total Gym yet but I'm planning to soon. I have a question if anyone could give some guidance. Does anyone know which level to start at? You know when you raise the platform, I don't know which number to start at. I'm a total beginner. The dvd's didn't really help me in this area. I'm really looking forward to using it as I can't walk right now due to issues with my feet/ankles so this is my next choice. I think once I get some of my weight off, I will be able to walk for exercise again. Thank you in advance for any guidance.

Hi, my name is Tim, I'm 56 years old and live in central Michigan. I have an old 1700 model but I take good care of it and it works great. I work with it 3 days a week for 30 minutes. Then I work another 30 minutes with free weights. I'm new to Spark just coming over here from MFP. I have no favorite routine, I just mix it up as best that I can.

Hi Dale and welcome. I'm Victoria from NY and I've been using the TG for the past year. In fact, in October I just won a new Total Gym Fit! I was laughing when I read your note as I have a tiny black cat who sits with me when I work out. She prefers to be under the TG which scares me, but so far she doesn't mind the noise.

Hi
I am Dale from WY. I am 65 have been married for 39. we have a 90# mutt that likes to rest on my chest when I am trying to exercise. She is a little leery of the TG. I have used the TG off and on for 4 years mostly off. I have a bad back and the TG workouts seem to help. I think the twist and the stretch help a lot.

Hi everyone,

I have the Total Gym XLS for roughly 3 weeks now, and really love the assisted workout. It's perfect for someone who has limitations; e.g. asthma, or injuries. Overtime, I hope to build the endurance, stamina, and strength to advance beyond the lowest level.

I couldn't help but notice that this group has an inactive leader and the posts are infrequent, which I'm hoping would change soon.

It would be nice to know what challenges others are facing, what results fellow Total Gym owners are achieving, and any bit of information that one can share to encourage each other on our fitness journey.

Regards,
Carla

My name is Lacey. I reside in Kansas City, Missouri. I have 4 kids. (2 teenagers and 2 pre-teens) I have been married for over 15 years.

I just received my Total Gym today. I am excited!!! Wanting to lose up to 80 pounds. I have some lower back and left knee issues. So I am hoping to have found the true lifestyle change with the Total Gym.

I was active before but in 2005 I got lazy, depression hit and finally I didn't care anymore.

I posted my first blog today (with measurements and weight)

Scared but hopeful. I am so ready for my lean and healthy body back!!!!

I bought a used Total Gym from Play It Again Sports a few months back and was using it everyday for a few weeks, then had to fold it up for a while to prepare my house for appraisal and refi. Now I need to get it out and moving again. Motivation is my biggest problem. I don't have a lot to lose, just mostly my tummy area and strengthen my muscles.

I'm over 50, and have lower back issues. Plus arthritis throughout my spine. I live west of Chicago and pretty much starting life over, so to speak.

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means you're two steps ahead.

Hi. Just joined the group.
I ruined my health taking care of my parents. Used TotalGym as part of my rehab from that. Managed to loose over 50# using walking, the gym, and drastic dietary regimens. I got plateaued at 250#. Weight gradually crept back up a little.

Looking to loose another 50+#. Currently using an exercise bike, free weights, and my trusty old TotalGym. I get a good workout with the gym without the strains and soreness from the free weights. I'm focusing more on the gym now as a change up from the free weights.

I'm on my second set of glide wheels for the totalgym.

Dusting off my total gym tonight! :) Hoping to get back on the path.

I am really more of a DVD exerciser and this has lead to the dust in the first place. Does anyone use any of the DVD's for the total gym and which would you recommend?

I have ordered the Jillian Michael's version of the Total Gym and am expecting it to arrive the week of June 18th. My goal is to get fit and lose 50 pounds along the way.

Pretty new here too! I got the Total Trainer purchased at a garage sale for 40.00 bucks, I've done a 90day program with Total Trainer guide working on another 35/90day Total Gym guide. I have a R-S-Bike and a Elliptical do either but not both 20min each day. I have lost weight but at a plateau i'm having issues with. I have gained good muscle looking for strength not bulk here! Thanks for all your hard work and post on SP it makes a big difference.

Hello, I am new to this group but not to the total gym. I have had a total gym since the 1990, can't say that I was very consistent from the start. Anyway I upgraded my gym to the XL version...which is now a has been I suppose...newer versions now available. I know this equipment works, I have had a lot of success with it off and on over the years. I haven't lost a great deal of weight with it, (never had a lot of weight to lose until now...and never adhered to a diet plan for long) so no fault of the machines, but I have toned up to the point that it looked like I lost lots of pounds. This will definitely rid you of jiggles. That being said I'm glad to have found this group I want to tone up again ...and I would like to lose 40lbs. I am glad that I will have this group to at least hold me accountable for remaining consistent. I want to get on my total gym at least 2-3x a week. As I said this machine does work. So if you've just ordered yours you will love the results. Inches will melt away and you will look more fit. Good Luck all!! Let's help each other get the results we want.

Hi. I'm Polly and I just bought a used TG 3000. I was inspired after seeing ol' Chuck Norris' informercial.

Problem for me is that I'm over the weight limit so i need some weight loss before using it. I'm hoping to stay inspired till I reach that point.

Hi team! My name is Susie, and I just got a used Total Gym Ultra. I had a similar model a few years ago, and really liked it, but I didn't move it when I moved out of state. Bad plan. I have paid money to a gym for the last year, and haven't been often at all. It's too far away.

So, here I am. I'm excited! I've had it for about a week and used it several times already. I need to get a routine down (I downloaded the exercise guide from the links - thanks!).

A question -- what does everyone do to track their workouts in sparkpeople? Do you just check off a box, or do you try to emulate specific exercises in the strength training?

Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Hello team. My name is Susan. I have been on Spark People for a month and have lost 15 pounds by walking and watching my diet. I am a 48 year old female that needs to lose 80 additional pounds. I ordered my Total Gym last week and can hardly wait for its arrival. I am very determined to get healthy. I have never used any type of machine to workout so I have a lot to learn. I am hoping this team will encourage me tone up and stay on track with my weight loss goals. emoticon

Hi Everyone,

I probably get the star for having a Total Gym longest without using it regularly. I lived on Cape Cod and worked as a Realtor and Garden Designer..bought the TG in 1998 (approx) used it sporadically...Now..moved to Santa Barbara CA, live with my son and DIL in cottage on property (lucky me)..and to the laughs of my family, moved the TG here...Last week I ripped off the plastic bags, swept off the spiders and put it outside on my patio..NOW..will I use it??? that is why I am on this Sparkteam..help me do it..please..I am 68, and had lost 10 pounds, but gained it back..I know it is because of no exercise..must start soon....any advice for a couch potato, lover of ice cream with bad feet will be appreciated..
