Hi Ya'll,
I'm Shauna,
I am a single mom of a wonderful 5 year old little girl. I was never married. I have full custody. I was just young and stupid. Although God turned that into a good thing. I want to teach my daughter good habits so I've started racing/walking with her places and I want to limit her junk and teach her portion control. I have been gaining weight this past year and a half since I've had to go on medication due to depression and anxiety. I've gained a total of about 40 lbs but my goal weight is to get down to like 130 or 125. I'm 5'3 and I've never had a weight problem. I have a sit down job and I work full time so I find that its hard to exercise and eat healthy. Plus my appetite has increased since I've been on these meds and I dont have much energy. I don't like my weight and I just want to lose to be a healthier me. I'd also like to start dating again but I'm waiting for my goal weight. I want to give up on eating fast food and atleast walk every day.

My name is Jonathan. I am divorced and have two children. I am the custodial parent and have my kids with me any time I'm not working. It's time to get healthy for them. I have a long way to go before they are grown. I want to be there to walk my daughter down the isle... in no less than 25 years... I have to survive and it's time to completely change my lifestyle.
I am also a firm believer in Jesus Christ. I strive to live my life with a "What Would Jesus Do?" mentality and I honestly don't believe that my body is a "Holy Temple".

Jonathan C.

Welcome Lori,
We are so glad and blessed that you are here to share the journey. Congrats on your weightloss so far. I was in weight watchers for awhile, lost a few pounds, mostly out of terror of going to the weigh-ins and everyone seeing that I gained weight.

This is a nice, friendly, free, relaxed way to lose weight and get healthy!!!

So again, welcome!!!

Hi! I'm Lori, blessed mom to a wonderful 15 yr old daughter. I'm new to SP but have heard a lot about it for a couple of yrs from a co-worker. I finally joined & am ready to lose the weight that I've been steadily & quickly gaining over the last year. August 2010, I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease... & am being treated for lupus. Since that time I have gained 35 lbs on top of my already overweight 4'10" body. I joined Weight Watchers (again!) in January and gained 15 lbs in 3 months! 8 of those lbs was in just one week's time! Frustrated, I quit going and thought I could do better on my own. Although the weight gain has been slower, it is still rising.

So I prayed about it & decided to totally change everything I know about dieting & weight loss. I researched sites about eating right & exercising with lupus... leading me to counting calories. Because of the lupus, I have had to re-think & re-do my exercise program. I work out on the WiiFit and have started doing zumba (well, sort of anyway.) Since August 1st, I've lost 6.5 lbs and am feeling so much better about myself already!

The Lord had truly blessed me by giving me a supportive family and a daughter who jumped right on this band wagon to be healthier too.

Hi Everyone - Happy Wednesday :)

Although I have been on Spark for some years, I have never really used the program properly. So this is my latest and most concerted effort to make the best use of these tools.

I am now 31 and although I'm relatively healthy (no diabetes, no high cholesterol or blood pressure problems), I would love to lose weight and just be healthier. Since a few years ago, I decided I would live my life to the fullest no matter what my weight was, and I have. I go out dancing with friends, on trips, on dates, buyclothes I love, volunteer, stay involved in my daughter's school activities, etc.; I really do enjoy my life. However, it bothers me that I have been overweight since I was 11 - exactly 20 years now. I feel like there's this person I have yet to meet and would be amazing to get to know as well. Besides, there are things I can't do right now, like run instead of walk the 5K's for causes I join, or bycicle with my daughter without feeling like all eyes are on me.

Anyway, I was glad to see emails from DX bringing this team to life. I am definitely trying very hard to change a lifetime of bad habits and any/all support would be appreciated. You'll all be in my prayers since we know that with God we can do anything, and without Him nothing. Let's do this! By next summer, I'm sure we'll all look back and be happy we sacrificed and labored for such a great cause - healthier versions of our wonderful selves.

Sam emoticon

Hi My name is Laurie. I am a 46 yr old, single Mom of a 12 yr old daughter. I am an emotional eater and a comfort eater. None of which truly makes me happy inside. It's all lies. I have been doing Sparkpeople.com since March 24, 2011. I have been an overeater for awhile and I find that keeping track of the food I eat is a great tool for me. I can't lie to myself about the quantity of food for the day. I have been exercising too and tracking that. I have to stay away from sugar too. I can go nuts on it. I like the clear head I have when I am sober in food and praying to God. I know I can't do this myself. I am new to this Spark Team stuff. I have been going to a gym for 3 weeks now (4 times a week) and I have actually gained weight (2 pounds), that really makes me mad. I have been eating less, except for easter candy last week, which is gone now. So I am back on track. I have lost some inches in the chest, waist and hips. I know that I did not get fat overnight, nor will I get smaller overnight, but I really want to see fast results. Thanks for listening. I really need to truly rely on God for strength, but I do need Jesus with skin on people too. I do weight over 200 pounds and I know the guy in the gym says muscle weights more, but I don't want to be over 200 pounds. I hate that number.

I really need all the help I can get.

I have just stumbled across this board and it seems as though it isn't all that active, and what a shame...such a great group. Maybe that will change. My name is Sherry and I live in Mississippi with my two kids--my oldest is 17 and the youngest is 10. I am constantly challenged with finding the time to work out/exercise and to eat/plan healthy meals. Many times dinner is just my young daughter and myself and with activities (church, sports) in the evenings, sometimes dinner is whatever you can grab before you leave or after you get home. It just does not make for consistency and I know that's what I lack. Oh, that and the fact that I am about as hooked on sugar as you can get. It's not any better than any other addiction, and I need to work on that. I have been divorced for a long while now, so this is nothing new. The big change in my life is my retirement from the military about a year ago. With no real threat about my weight affecting my job, my concern about my weight was minimal and the result is a 30+ weight gain within a year. I know that it's time to focus and work hard and be in prayer for the strength to do just that. I've learned I can't do this alone.

Hello all......I am JoAnna. I hve been a part of sparkeople for years now, weight goes up I am not on here, weight goes down I am on here almost everyday. I got back on a few weeks ago after losing 10 lbs and noticed that most of my teams had now heart and now feeling other than turning the cog of Lose weigh lose weight lose weight, exercise exercise excerise. When I stert losing ( this time) I asked help from the most important one and my friends and family. God has shoed me where to serve a lot lately anf I am concerned he is going to want me to go on some mission trip far away and I am not going to be able to get on a plane or Hike miles though a jungle and I just won't be able. Yes this is for me and my 10 year old and to inspire my little ( obese) sister but it is for God and his wishes.

As we walk though this garden, that some call life there are many paths and ways to go. There is always someone there to help you along the way some may force you down their path or help you find your own. No matter what path you take there is a key in the garden. You must find it to survive!

Hi! New to SP as of last week but loving it already! I'm 43, divorced and the mother of 6, ages 2-20. The 4 youngest still live with me in Missouri. My 20 year old son lives in Arkansas. My 16 year old daughter lives with her dad in Texas.
I was married for 22 years, and went into the divorce kicking and screaming, so to speak. I finally turned around and got my feet under me and embraced the here and now. Since then I've been learning to enjoy life again. After a couple of years of soul searching and job finding and moving etc. I'm ready to tackle me. So far I have loved this SP community! Very supportive. I hope to make a few new friends here! Please stop by my page and friend me if you want!

Hi KS_PRINCESS175 and welcome to the team. It sounds like you have your hands full with 4 kids, but are on the right track. Life is certainly full of challenges and it helps all of us to know we are not the only ones going through them.

Hi. I'm new around here. I'm a newly single mom. My (soon to be) ex left about a year ago. He is now living in Kansas and I'm in PA with our 4 kids ~ ages 15, 13, 9, and 1. I've spent this past year becoming a new person and I'm liking who I'm becoming. emoticon I'm still a work in progress, but I'm growing and that is just plain awesome. I look forward to getting to know everyone here.

Hello. My name is Anna and I am new to this team. I have been on SP since April but for the last couple of months as I was going through a divorce I have not been on SP much and have not been exercising much. I am trying to get myself back into the swing of things but am preoccupied with my new single status. The relationship was unhealthy and I am glad to be in a place that I can become strong and healthy but I am lonely too. I just wanted to say "Hi". I hope all is well with everyone.

Let's do this!

Hello Ladies, Just found this group and seeking support to stay on track... so think this is a great place to start. I've only been separated for 4 months, and still trying to adjust to the new family arrangements. I've got three children at home with me, and they are 4.5 years, 5.75 years and ll.5 years old. My oldest married 2 months ago, and I have an 18 year old living away from home, also. I have a busy, stressful life and started back at weight loss almost 4 weeks ago and am down 19lbs... heading into Christmas! I love my walks 4 to 5 times per week and as of next Friday.. I'll have a WII Fit to use at home.... I look forward to getting to know some of you and to be challenged and motivated to stay the course!
God bless ya all from Ontario, Canada!
Sherri.

Hi everyone,

Just came in to say hello, and say what a great group. I'm a divorced parent of a boy who's 13, and a girl who's 9.

I look forward to getting to know some of you, encouraging some, and motivating others.

I think there is no better way to invite a human being to view their body differently than by inviting them to be an athlete, by revering one's body as an instrument rather than just an ornament. It's a really great way to reorient how you see your body so you can see it as this incredible, awe-inspiring machine that you need to fuel well in order for it to function.

Hi everyone. I 40 and have been single for 8 years now. My kids are 17, 11 and 7 and I live in northeast Indiana. The oldest kids' dad lives 40 minutes away and is not part of their lives. My youngest's dad is a few states away and is also not involved. I rely on God to get me through. I used to think I had to have a man in my life but no longer think this way. I live for God and hope someday someone will be part of my life that is equally yolked but if it doesnt happen, thats fine. My kids are my life now and Im happy with it.

Im single and low-income, and have resorted to poor eating habits. My oldest is also overweight and needs to lose at least 30 lbs. My middle child is just a little overweight and my youngest is thin but I cant get her to eat healthy. I have decided this month to make a change and it has been hard. Ive been a Sparker for 3 weeks now. My oldest has lost 8 lbs and I have lost 5. I love the support at this site! Im looking forward to meeting all of you!

Hi. Not new to sparks but definitely new to this team. When I first joined sparks I joined some random teams it recommended. Unfortunately none of those teams really worked for me. I did find a challenge that I love it's called the biggest loser. Last season I was on the purple team and I lost 30 lbs. during the two weeks of I gained back 9. It's my second season and I'm now the leader of red and I've lost that 9 and 11 more in just the first four weeks! YEAH! Anyways, I have always wanted to find some team that works for me but some of them are so depressing. I don't need other ppl bringing me down. I want ppl who will hold me accountable and pray for me, but understand where I'm coming from. So I thought I'd start here. I'm 24 w/ a bday coming soon. I have a 2 y/o little girl. Here dad and I were married and he had an affair while I was pregnant. We're now divorced and he really doesn't have much to do with us. He's only seen her once. While it is tough being a 24/7 single parent I'm very grateful that God has blessed me with such a sweet child. She really is my joy and in Nehemiah it says that "the joy of the Lord is my strength." Oh how I love that verse. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and sharing each others joys and burdens as we are called to do!

HI to all you new single moms. I had twins first, then had 3 more...I lost my baby fat by cutting out sugary drinks and having that many kids my life was very busy. I took my kids for walks as much as possible, pushing the double stroller was a workout but later pushing one and keeping up with the others helped me stay fit....outside games are the best but I have found playing with your kids makes everybody happier and remember house work will always be there, your kiddos won't. Also, assign the kids chores, helps free up time for everybody to have more time together for physical games and kids love to dance....that can be a workout for mom. HAVE FUN and STAY FIT!

Welcome to both of you two new ladies. I am a single mom (more than full time!) and also work full time. Dad isn't very healthy and does not work, so it pretty much lies on me all the way to raise our daughter to be a strong Christian woman. I can't get on here too often, but check in as often as I can. I look forward to getting to know both of you. Good luck on your journies!

Thanks! Things are good, now this weekend was a little rough, had birthday parties and tons of services for church, but I did stay under my calorie goal all weekend, just wasn't as healthy as normal.

Hello all!!!

I am a 29 year old mom of a beautiful 5 year old boy who is my world. God has entrusted me with his precious soul, and I'm trying to raise him to be a wonderful Christian man. I have always been not skinny, but after I had my kid I just kept packing on the pounds and then 4 years ago I started working in an office where I sit down all the time. My son is so active I want to lose weight so I can hang out with him, and run with him, and show him how to be healthy. I am a very busy person so I always used the excuse I didn't have time to work out, and I ate the way I did because my son was sooo picky...but God has delivered me from my food addiction. I work full time, I'm a full time mommy, and I am also my church's secretary sooo the time thing is not a lie, but now I exercise why my little one is in bed and it is working. I found this group because I think it's important to surround yourself with others like you, and being a Christian and loving and living for God are my first priorities. Hope to make some friends too. I've found people don't really really talk on here, and I don't understand so I hope this group is different.

God Bless.

Hi Everyone! I'm a single Mom with a 7 year old daughter. I have been on the heavy side all of my life. My problem is being consistent. Hopefully this time I'll lose the weight and keep it off. My daughter is on the heavy side as well and it's important to me that she does not experience the negative self image that I did. She seems to love herself and is very open minded and full of joy and I want her to stay that way and be healthy as well. emoticon

Welcome to the team! The best thing to do at first is to log absolutely everything you do (eat and exercise). This helps to get an understanding of what you are actually putting into your body and burning from your body. It's hard to do at first, atleast it was for me. I didn't want to see how much I was destroying my body. Even before joining SP though, I did this on my own. It really helped me to understand what I was doing!

Again, welcome to the team. I look forward to getting to know you here on Spark!

I was overwhelmed by the I need to count the calories, Oh no too much fat, gotta exercise atleast this much. When I turned it over to God, it got easier. Not to say that it is always a bed of roses, I think we all have our times. But...knowing that I AM capable of making good food choices, it IS okay to eat something "not so healthy" sometimes, and HE is watching over me makes it easier. I still get hungry, and I still eat when I'm hungry. First I drink some water, and then wait a few to see if I am thirsty or if I am truly hungry. I also eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. I don't go longer than 3 hours without eating. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, and sometimes another snack (depending on the day).

Anyway, I hope that helps a bit.
Welcome to the team!

Hi everyone! I am Melissa!I'm 41 and have four children:Twin daughters who are 11, an 8 yr old son, and a 6 year old daughter. I have been single 6 yrs/ divorced 5. I work full time as a secretary. I try to be an upbeat person but at the same time I have to admit that I am overwhelmed 99% of the time!I feel like I have so much on my shoulders, that trying to count calories and keep myself in check feels like another chore I can't seem to keep up with (not to mention I get hungry...a lot!). Does anyone else feel like the stress of doing it all alone is overwhelming? I look forward to making new friends here and to finally succeed in the battle against my hips! :) Melissa

Im 45.
2 grown children.
I'm recently divorced after 25 years of marriage.
I work at home, have two cute dogs that require me to get up and walk... which is a great motivator.

I've been a Christian for 26 years. It is my life line, more so today than yesterday... which is usually my one liner. Gods mercy meets me when I put my feet to the floor and his grace cradles me to sleep at night.

I'm new to this 'single' bit. So....here I am. Single and a parent.

My two kids: my son is 24, lives in Maui, HI... I know I can hear you from here.....he is a beautiful person. And, my daughter, 16 lives here with me. Not in Maui...I know...I hear it from her...lol !!!

Hope to be a blessing as well as be blessed.

talk at you later.

Welcome to the team Kati! I look forward to getting to know you here on SP.

I had alot to lose at the start of my journey as well. I began at 207 pounds, began SP at 169 pounds, and am now at 155. It is possible, and it's amazing. I feel so much better, and you will too!

Good luck on your journey!

Hi Cindi(I hope I spelled that correctly). Welcome to the team. I'm a 33 year old mom. I had my son when I was 20. I love him more and more each day and wouldn't trade anything for him. He is a blessing to my life and he keeps me going with his many activities.

I, too, at one time was running away from God and I tell you, He has a way of making you hear Him. When I made it to the point where I was so low that I had to look up to Him, God truly revealed some things to me.

He has helped me to let go of the anger I felt towards my son's father. I still have a few mountains to climb but now that I am following God's leadership and guidance, I know I'll make it over them all.

Good luck to you with all your goals and I look forward to reading your testimonies and encouraging words and I hope I will say something that will motivate and encourage everyone here.

Hello, Everyone. My name is Cyndi. I'm a 40 yo single mom of a VERY energetic 5 yo. I never thought I wanted children until I was blessed with my son and now I thank God everyday for putting him in my life and giving me the opportunity to be a better person by allowing me to be a mom and to learn about my self. Because of my son, I have returned to church and welcomed God back into my life after many years of running and pushing him away. emoticon

Hello and welcome to the team! I look forward to getting to know you.

I can relate to the not seeing "it" thing. I started my weight-loss journey at 207 pounds, joined SP at 169 pounds, and now at 159 pounds I still see the same body (just with bigger clothes). I don't get it, but I guess that means that I'm a bit more comfortable in my skin than I thought I was. I do see collar bones now though, and that is different. Anyway, enough about me.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

Hi all- My name is Anne & I am the single parent of two beautiful daughters, 7 & 9. I am overweight, but I don't see it. Kind of like anorexia in reverse- I look in the mirror & see a thin person. At 248 pounds, intellectually I can grasp that this is just not the case. :-) I stumbled upon this website because I know I'll need some motivation along the way. And I know the best way to stay motivated is to help motivate others. Kinda cool how that works. So here I am. I look forward to getting fit with all of you.

Happy Saturday, Ladies! My name is Dorothy and I'm a newcomer. I'm so glad to have found this team! I'm a 42-year-old single mom of an 8 year old and 5 year old. I also teach 4th grade, so this is the time of year that gets hectic for us! I love traveling, romantic comedies and adventures with my kids. I've been divorced for five years now. We left an abusive relationship the night I brought my daughter home from the hospital. God has carried us every single day since and I'm so grateful for His amazing love! I have about 75 lbs to lose and I want to do it to honor the Creator that made me, and to keep up with my active children. A health coach introduced me to SP, and I'm already enjoying some huge changes! I'd love to join your team!

I'd like to send out a great big welcome to all the new folks on the team. It's so incredible how much the team is growing in the last several months... There are at least 20 more members. I look forward to getting online and visiting with everyone. It does get quiet here sometime, but as a group single parents are so busy, that is not so unexpected. The team comes together quite nicely to support each other, in a calm rational, Christian atmosphere. Thanks to all who contribute to the message boards.

You never know what life will bring. Take time to thank the Lord everyday. ~Kat~

Thank you Jamie,

I have truly been blessed by the Lord. I have traveled a rough journey of parenthood, but under His grace he has seen me through every step although I did not always see it that way. It is amazing what you can handle when it is put on your plate. I am amazed every day.

God Bless,

Renee

Welcome to our team! I have one child, and I was 25 when I had her. She is my world. You must be an incredible woman to have twins at 14, and then 2 more after that. I love my daughter to pieces, but I do not think I could handle twins. By His grace, maybe!!!

There is alot of support here, although lately our team has been quiet.

Again, welcome!

Good morning,

I am Renee and of course new to this group. I am a single mother of 4 children. I have twins that are 23 (I had them when I was 14). A son who is 17 and going to be a senior in the upcoming school year and a daughter who will be 16 in August and a junior in the upcoming school year.

I am joining this group to hopefully meet others single parents who are doing their best to raise their children with strong Christian values. To also be able to reach out to others for guidance of issues that they may also be facing etc.

God Bless,

Renee

Hi Lynn,
Welcome, We are glad you fell into the team. Join in with us in any of the threads. Start up a new topic if you don't find it here.

Wow, mom of 6...How do you find time to breathe? You must be full of knowledge, when it comes to raising kids. What are their ages?

We would all like the chance to know each other. Tell us a few things about yourself. By leaving your introductions here, it will be easier for them to not get lost in the shuffle. We can all tell a little about ourselves here, both old and new members.

I'm Kat and have one teen daughter. We live near the state capital of MO. I have been encouraged to get more healthy by Spark People and would like to do the same for others.
