I know what you mean about wanting a venue to get your thoughts out. I've spent a lot of time doing that; it helped keep me from eating and it often reinforced my resolve. There are so many cues to eat and so much food available that most of us need some counterbalancing thinking. I'm trying to expand into other areas now- that can be part of it-, but still love supporting others.

Hi Oo La La :-) Well honestly -- it's ok if not a lot of people see my posts. I think for me it just helps to get the words out.

I absolutely love the idea of a mentor and I will look up JOL1KEY2BOL3 on 21 days and hour commitments.

Thank you for the nice reply! I can use all the advice I can get - and appreciate all of your help and input!!!

Hi! Nice to see you here.

Just to let you know, I think most of our members don't get alerts for all the threads, so not all will see your message. As you can see from the last post dates, the most common threads used are the 21-day streak (which is a bit like a chat thread for some and just a counter for others) and the "what is my life about between meals."

Also, a longtime member who was also a purger (pretty much ended that) and has been quite successful at almost completely cutting out bingeing for years is JOL1KEY2BOL3. She posts daily on 21 days and "hour commitments," though she doesn't say a lot. She feels that making commitments throughout the day to wait until a certain time to eat has been central to her recovery. We are available for questions, of course. Most of us are older here, and would very much like to help younger women not spend the decades grappling unsuccessfully with this that we did! It is complicated by body image stuff, emotional pairings, and plain old food seduction. But honestly, though it can all sound so convoluted, the ways out are often not as tangled as it might seem. Let me know if you'd like more specifics.

Hello all! I am new to this forum. I started binge eating (with purging) when I was a junior in high school. Thank goodness I have been able to stop purging - but I still binge occasionally - especially when stress is high. I am a comfort eater - and when I'm hurting - I eat. And I can't stop.

I also struggle with some body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) such as skin picking and nail biting. Being on medicine helps me!

I would have never talked about this before - but as I've gotten older, it's getting easier to not be "perfect." I can admit more readily when I don't have it all together. So many of these behaviors and attitudes are defense mechanisms - and were necessary for me at certain points in my life.

Now, as I continue to heal and get healthy - I know that I can move on from these behaviors and recognize my innate self-worth.

Thanks for listening - I look forward to being a part of the community :-) all the best, Vespa

I didn't post anything here, but did leave a welcome on your page right about the time you posted here. I see that you have not added any blogs since then and have had few people post on your page. Your last blog had you reviewing your amazing success. Maybe that helped bolster your good feelings and you haven't felt you needed much else?

If not, please let me know if you think there is anything I can do to help.

Hi, welcome to the team Brendali and Emily! I am sorry Brendali that no one replied to your post.
Living in Europe means that I don't get notifications from Sparkpeople about new posts nor about new threads... Just want to say that I hope you'll both join in the active threads on this team, like the Hour Commitments thread, and the 'LBM' thread, and the 4-day-wins thread.
I'll go check out your sparkpages and your blogs, now.

Good morning everyone.
My name is Brendali! Just this year at the age of 35 I have come to terms with my unhealthy relationship with food. I am an emotional binge eater. I never realized how consumed I was by it, by eating until I couldnít breath just because I could, spending my time between meals thinking about when I would eat next, then feeling terrible about how much I ate, eating more with the promise of starting fresh the next day....

Itís a frustrating cycle and one I hope to break with support!
