This is my first post here! :)

Last year I lost 20 pounds on my own, not using SparkPeople or any other method. I'm here because I'm afraid I won't be disciplined enough to keep the weight off! I would like to lose another 5-10 pounds, but I am also fine with the way I look at this weight (I actually never thought I could attain this weight as a healthy adult, who knew?!).

Just wanted to say hello. My name is Dawn. I'm very new to posting to message boards like this. I have just recently started working on a healthier lifestyle, and my goal is to lose between 55 and 60 pounds within the year. It is tough at times, mostly trying to find the time to exercise, but I'm not giving up, so I guess that is a plus.

Hi! I'm new to posting but I found (and have used) SparkPeople since January. I was doing pretty well until last week so to get myself back on track I decided to try posting. Hope everyone has a great week!

Hi everyone! I'm rejoining SparkPeople after being off for quite awhile. My main reason for getting back on right now is my upcoming trip to Greece for my 10th anniversary. I keep telling people that I don't want it to become "My Big Fat Greek Vacation".

This is a good site. I think the trick is to log what we eat and how much we exercise on a daily basis. This gives an excellent picture of how we are doing. Good luck and skinny vibes to you! Nice orchid. Do you grow them? - Mandy

Hi, I too recently rejoined yesterday. I have managed to lose 10lbs. I would like to lose the remaining 13. I hit a plateau and am getting discouraged. I am hoping this will motivate me to keep going. I am looking forward to getting acquainted with others who are in a similar situation - Mandy emoticon

Hi, My name is Meg and I have never posted anything anywhere until today. I find talking about myself very difficult, but the success of people on these message boards has made me feel I should try. I've been a member since 2008 and this is the first time I'm introducing myself.
I'll be turning 50 in October and even though I've been eating healthy and exercising daily since January I'm still at pretty much the same weight. Something has to change so I'm starting here today.

My name is Mary-Ellen I knd of joined Sparks in 2007. I did not get too involved and then I quit, because of health issues I am back and I want to be more involved. I have never blogged or anything like that. I have no facebook (my kids say I am very behind times). I am going to try my best to learn as much as I can, get involved with the fitness, and calorie counting. I am glad I am back and I feel more motivated to make this work and to enjoy it.

Hi. Sarah here.
I've been using SparkPeople for a couple of weeks now and this is my first message. I know I don't have a lot to lose compared to many others here, but I feel like my weight has just skyrocketed over the past year. This time last year I was at my ideal weight and wore a size 8. I don't remember changing my lifestyle any, but suddenly I'm a 12 and gaining. I'm just happy that I haven't gained any -more- weight since I started. Anyway, I'm glad this particular thread is here because forums always intimidate me. Hi!

Hey.
I don't really know what to say.
I'm 22, and a bit overweight. I'm 5'3" and 145 pounds. I'm looking to get down to 125 at most, but ideally, I'd like to be at 120 pounds. I was referred to this site by a friend. I thought it might be helpful to get me to live a healthier lifestyle. My goal is just to be happy and healthy!

Okay here it goes. I've been on for about a month or so, but not actively participating. Purchased the book and started reading and have set my mind to engage. I am nervous because my time is limited. I have two kids, 5 in a week and 17 months plus I am finishing my bachelors degree in nursing and trying to find a job at the same time. I've got a lot of balls in the air and scared to try to juggle this one too, but I know that I have to work this into my life so here it goes....

Hey JB,
I know where you're at. I JUST started and mulled it over for about a week. Wanted to explore the site first and gather info. But this morning I took the plunge and started! I'll admit I'm deathly afraid of failure. Gotta think positive and I know after a few days (or weeks) of success I will feel much more confident.
Good Luck We'll all be cheering when you jump in and start.

I have extremely bad anxiety, and my other goal is to control that as well. I am reading the book and just starting on the Fast Break goals. So, hello to Everyone.

I too have been checking out this site for about a week and I just found a buddy at work who wants to do this with me. I am a working mom with 3 kids, 9, 11, and 13. I am married and have been for 17+ years, most of them happy. I have never been thin, except for a short time when my dad was very ill and eventually died. I worked really hard at losing and was doing the WW thing but the stress helped too. That was 5 years ago and shortly after that my Dr. put me on a med that was an instant 30 lbs. Big bummer! I am almost 48 years old (b-day next month) and I know it gets harder to lose as you get older but I really want this to work for the long haul. My other hurdle is I am a frequent headache sufferer and have some issues with my knees, back, neck and feet that make exercise a bit of a challenge. I do think losing 30 lbs will help some of this. Mostly I enjoy yoga. Nonetheless, I am thrilled to find this site for 2 reasons - 1. it's free! and 2. there seems to be lots of support. Here's to success!

I've actually been a member for years, but never stuck with it, and never posted a single message on the boards - till now. emoticon

Anyway, I'm 29, and I live in Orange County, California with my wonderful husband and our two very spoiled cats. I've been overweight for as long as I can remember, and sometime between graduating high school and now, about 90 pounds managed to sneak up on me! 15 of it was already gone, and now I'm in the middle of an effort to get rid of another 60 pounds, at LEAST.

I'm walking and doing the Couch-to-5k plan, and I'm currently in Phase 2 of the South Beach lifestyle (I hate to call it a "diet"... in my history, diet = short term work for short term results!) I'm always happy to have internet friends, and any support/encouragement is appreciated! There are WAY too many days when I just don't want to get off my lazy butt and MOVE...

Hi, I've never posted a message before, I am not even sure how to do it. I am 38 yrsold, I have 4 kids, and this summer I am going to 5 days at a redwood camp with my 12 yr old daughter. I have been watching this site and thinking about how I am going to get started trying to lose some weight for about a week now. I would appreciate it if someone can explain a little about how these message boards work. Thanks

Hi - I'm Jennifer. I joined this site about a week ago, but today is my first official day of participating. I am 36, stay at home mother of a 17 year old son and 3 year old daughter. I knew that I was not at my optimal weight, but I was shocked to find out that I am considered obese and need to lose 50 pounds. I took the last week to wrap my head around that, and now I am ready to begin - although I am terrified. But, I know that I need to get healthier and try to avoid the obesity and diabetes that plagues my family. I'm glad that I found this community - I don't have a lot of close friends.

I joined Sparks about a week ago and am getting around the site pretty well. I'm very comfy on a computer and consider myself very computer literate. However, I cannot figure out how to get the picture I uploaded to my picture gallery to show up when I make a post. Can anybody tell me how to do that?

Hi, I'm Susan. I'm 25 years old and sick of carrying around the weight I gained in grad school (I put on approx. 60 lbs during my first 10-week term, and have been fighting it ever since!). I don't know that there was any particular event that prompted me, I just would really like to be down to my goal weight by the time I turn 27 (about a year and a half from now). I did the math, it's about 1/3 of my current weight that I'd like to lose, and that's an awful lot to do all on one's own (which is why I'm here). So...hello everyone, hope you're well!

Hello everyone. I'm Rebecca and I'm 26 years old. I have a wonderful husband and a Mastiff/Rottweiler puppy. I have put on some extra weight since my wedding in March and would really like to get rid of it. I am hoping to lose 20 to 25 lbs but I find it is much harder when there is no deadline, such as a wedding, so I am hoping everyone here can help me ou and give me some pointers along the way.

Hello--I'm Sara, 44 year old full time mom to my 5 and 3 year old boys. I've been struggling to lose the weight that I gained with my pregnancies and it has been difficult to do anything for myself. But with recent diagnosis of high blood pressure and pre-diabetic blood sugar levels, I need to get to a healthy weight and get on with my life. I've lost about 20 pounds in the last year and have about 46 to go. Hope this community can help.

Hi, I hope I'm doing this correctly. I joined in Nov, but was so busy that I haven't had a chance to follow through. With my 50th BD quickly approaching I feel like this is the best time for me to try to get out there and do something for myself. I was always a thin kid, but in my 40's my thyroid went out of whack and I gained 60 pounds as a result. My thyroid is now under control but I still have an extra 45 - 50 pounds! The past 2 years have been very difficult for me with the death of 3 loved ones & ending my 8 year relationship (he was an alcoholic & wouldn't stop drinking). But I finally feel like I have time to do something just for me. It's very scary trying to start over, but as I read your posts it makes me feel like I am not alone in this struggle. So, here goes! emoticon

Hi! I'm Lisa--57, professional career, married, an avid cook and foodie. I've been obsessed with weight much of my life, going up and down. Right now I'm hovering on the brink of BMI-defined obesity, and maybe sparkpeople.com will help. I tried to use the site last year but found it overwhelming. Then, after reading an excerpt of "The Spark" on googlebooks, I kind of began to get it. Now, I'm getting hooked. I like the idea of setting small goals, and it's great to see the diversity of people and ideas I'm finding here. Wish me luck!

Hi, I'm Carol - just trying to figure out how to join in on team discussions and such. I'm 53, grew up in rural NY state and have lived in Nebraska since 1980. Married for 25 years. Love people, God, my husband, and my kids (dogs and cats!). Trying to lose 5 - 10 lbs seems to be the hardest thing to do but i am very motivated right now and glad i found SP to help keep me motivated.

Hello. I'm PJ. I joined SP back in June but was too overwhelmed by the site and never used it. I was at Barnes and Noble this weekend and saw "The Spark" so I purchased it, read it in a day and thought I would give it a try. I am 41 years old and am trying to lose 20 pounds (could probably stand to lose more). I'm starting by writing down everything I eat and go for a walk every day. Baby steps right?
