I too am not sure about so much on the site. I dont see a "post" link, but reply only. I read so many of the intros and have found I am not alone. So many out there at difficult times. I lost both my parents, got divorced , both grown children left and my son joined the Marine Corp...I am alone fo rthe first time in my life. 48 years old and food is my best friend. I want to begin anew and I am hopeful but scared that this site will help...but I AM OVERWHELMED!

Okay i am just hoping that i am doing this correctly. I just joined this group late last night. I am looking forward to getting myself back into shaped and toned up. Oh my name is deana (dena) i live in Texas. I am married to my husband of 17 yrs. we have 3 girls. We live on a farm and also run an animal rescue for farm animals. I wrk outside the home 4 days a week. I just recently got the wii and so far love it. Have not had alot of time this week to get on it. We had about 4 horse rescues we had to do. and relocate 2 of them. We had a baby goat born on the 4th so been keeping an eye on him sense this cold snap has come threw to Texas. I have an almost 2 month old goat in the house that was a rescue. And our neighbors goat who's mommy goat would not take care of it. And Miss molly the nieghbor did not know what to do for him. So needless to say never a dull moment here. lol

Hi, my name is Dixie..I am seeking to lose at least 20 lbs..mostly for my health and to feel better about me.. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but I want to lose it now before it develops into a lot more. I'm not sure what I should post here, so I will tell you a bit about me.. I am married to my best friend..We have been married almost 37 years and we have six grandchildren-4 grandsons and 2 granddaughters..we also have a boston terrier, Maggie. Maggie was a Christmas present to me from my husband 4 years ago. She is such a joy and blessing..I love her with all my heart. We live in upstate NY..deep in the heart of the Catskills..

Hi all -- my name is Shaina and I am new to SP. I bought the book over the holidays and am now starting to familiarize myself with the site. I have tried other methods of weight loss in the past, but am ready to make the change to a healthy lifestyle vs. dieting! I am new to posting and the online community so looking forward to learning how to use it!

Hi everyone. I am new to SP and have been wandering around the site for a couple days. I am 5 days away from being 39, have 2 beautiful children aged 8 and 5 1/2, recently separated, and living on my own for the first time ever. I have struggled with my weight since I graduated college but this time, its more about getting healthy. I need to lose a few, but I need to make small changes that will last forever-not just until I lose the weight.

Last year sucked. I need to make this year better. That's why I am here. emoticon

Hi. Just joined a couple of days ago. Been trying to find my way around the site. I am a 39 year old wife, mother, nurse. My weight has been an issue for most of my adult life. I am 6 months away from 40, and I am determined to get myself in check. I have found this site to be informative and encouraging. TIA for all your support!

Hi, I've been reading message boards for a long time, but this is my first post. I'm 50 and going through the "empty nest syndrome". My only child has moved to Canada. I'm divorced so its just me for the first time in over 20 years.
So I think it's time to do something just for me! I've decided that it will be losing weight and getting healthy.

I have no idea if I am posting correctly. I am a 33 year old mother of a wonderful 3 1/2 year old boy. I am desperately trying to get healthy. I struggle with high blood pressure. I have been in and out of the hospital over the last two years and am determined to get this under control. My goal is to get of the meds. I do not exercise and to be honest wouldn't even know where to begin. I want to be around for my husband and my son. Here is to finding friends to join me on my journey.

I have a few more years on you.. I am 63 and have struggled with weight issues. I just figure that if I were not paying attention and trying, I could be even more overweight. Right now I am focusing more on changing eating habits. Eating breakfast even if I binged at night, exercice everyday, WW healthy eating guidelines, night time over eating, tracking on Sparks both exercise and nutrition. I have gotten pretty good at most but my hardest to overcome is the nighttime eating. Hang in there!! Don't give up...ever, ever! emoticon

Hello, my name is Judy and I'm 34 years old. I've 'done' WW and SP before but always seem to fall back into my old habits. I've struggled with my weight my entire adult life. I'm tired of being unhappy with myself, of not being able to wear the clothes I like, and of not having the energy or confidence to do the things I want to do. I'm hoping to find some friends and some motivation to make some much needed lifestyle changes once and for all.

Hello, I have enjoyed reading through many of the stories on this get aquainted page and can relate to so many of them. I am 63 and recently retired. I can't remember not ever working on my weight issues. I am a life timer at WW and am currently trying to recapture my goal weight, (yet again)..It has many good tools as does the Spark. I am very impressed with the articles, the tools and the upbeat Spark People...I love this site and now that I am retired, would like to spend more time using it!!

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I will give it a try. My name is Tamara and I am 26 years old. I have been overweight most of my life and actually been pretty comfortable with it. I'm still comfortable with the number on the scale, but I am not comfortable with getting out of breath after short walks or not being able to play sports with my boyfriend and my nephews. I am tired of being on the sidelines. I want to get involved and talk to other people because I think it will be comforting, but at the same time I have a lot of anxiety about sharing this struggle with other people. I haven't even told the people closest me about signing up or my plans for weight loss. I am looking for someone to guide me around the page and boards so I can let go and get involved with the sparkpeople community.

Hi I am Shannon, a 40 y/o stay at home mom. I recently went to the Dr. for my yearly check-up & found that my blood pressure was a staggering 144/106. I lost 40 lbs. on Weight Watchers several years ago, but stopped going after moving to a new location, so of course the weight crept back on to where I was at 224.5. The Dr. put me on a water pill, told me to watch my sodium intake, and get more exercise, then had me come back in a week. I lost 5 pounds that first week and BP went down to 126/82 and since then I've gotten it down to 122/78. I started going to Weight Watchers again and have started being more of a participating member here at SP. That BP reading scared me, heart disease & strokes run in my family, & I don't want my children to grow up w/o a mom. I am finding a hard time getting support locally, so that's why I have come here.

Jenn - Welcome! When you say, "I am having a hard time eating the amount of calories the program gave me," in which direction do you mean? That you're still eating too much, or can't meet the minimum? That will drastically affect the kind of advice you receive. ;)

I hope I'm doing this right. I'm 29 and never been thin. I am starting to get worried about my health, and would like to be around for a long time. Nothing really severe has happened yet, but I am borderline on too many things. I don't have kids, so I don't have that as an excuse, just that I've always sat around and created art. I would rather sit and watch tv than exercise, so I definitely need help with motivation. I've been on this "lifestyle change" for a couple months now, and I am having a hard time eating the amount of calories the program gave me now that I am trying to be more conscientious about what goes in my mouth. Any advice?

I have been looking around the site for a while now. I've never done anything like this so hopefully I'm doing it right! The pounds have crept up on me over the years. I know what I need to do but I have no willpower. I am hoping this site will give me the guidance and motivation to get me moving.

Hello, Im new here and I am overwhelmed as well. Im not sure exactly how to get through all of this or where to get started. I have completed some items, but there is just so much. Im desperate to loose 100lbs on a shoestring budget. Im sure others are in the same predicument with the economy the way it is. My health is not good but I wont get into that. I guess Im a little shy about starting this program because I seem to fail so much and I dont want this to happen this time. Ive heard some positive things about Spark People, therefore I want to give it a try what do I have to loose other then weight right.LOL...So here goes...

Hello all. I've only been on Spark People for a few days. I find the site kind of overwhelming...there's just so much to attend to that I don't know where to begin. I'm 52 and diabetic. (I lost both my parents to complications from diabetes, and I'll never forget how they suffered). I really don't want to go down that road and my blood sugar is getting out of control. This is life or death for me. I've tried going it on my own and sooner or later I relapse into bad habits. I really need encouragement and support. The idea of being a part of a community of people with common goals appeals to me.

Peace, Sharon

Hi TryTryAgain6 I know what you mean, but I've found out the hard way, by being a professional yo-yo dieter, that those low calorie restrictive diets just burn you out & when you go off them, you're liable to gain more weight than ever. The best way I've found is to keep a food journal like in the My Nutrition section and BE HONEST. You may be surprised if you write EVERYTHING down, how many calories you actually consume. Sometimes slow & steady wins the race!!!

Hi I am new here and I have some questions. But first off they gave me my calorie intake and it is between 1,490 - 1,840 is that normal and can you lose weight with that much. I know this sounds stupid but when you go on the other diet plans it is always below 1200 and one was even 900, which is extreme. And I know on weight watchers they add calories for working out, is this why it is high adding for working out automatically. I have been exercising so that is fine a min. of an hour a day 4-5 days a week cardio and 3 days x 40min for weight training. Input would help thanks

Lets see where to begin. I am a 46 yr old widow that is trying to find herself. I was married for so long(a very good one)that I am not sure what to do with myself. I have decided to start by learning how to use the internet for more than emails and shopping. Also, I really needed to work on me and how I have let myself go since my husbands death. It's been 2 yrs but somedays seems like yesterday.

Welcome!

Is it that you don't know what to do here on the team, or on SparkPeople in general?

For the former, you can use the team to ask questions about the site, and get more comfortable posting. You can post in the Daily Gratitude and the What Did You Do For Fun Today threads for practice. :D

If it's SparkPeople in general, I highly recommend the Getting Started Guide, which is under Quick Links in the right-hand column of every page. :)

Good luck!

Hi I'm new and have no idea what to say other than Hi!

Ok. I have never posted on any web sight before. I've always been worried about what will show up (full name, address, the worst picture ever taken of me...)Is there any way that can happen?

Welcome!

I had that quote on a poster I used to have in my office at a past job, and when I started this journey, it seemed appropriate! :D

First time blogger here - never quite got the point of it. But hey! I can see lots of other people are in my shoes so I might as well jump in here.

58 years of age, just beginning to feel the effects of the 50 - 60 extra pounds I've been carrying around for several years. Do NOT want to become and old, debilitated, crotchety weakling by the time I'm 60! sheesh. My wife is slimslimslim and never worries about her weight BUT she's an athlete so... And the truth of the matter is lately I HATE to work out! Perhaps I'll feel better about it once I have less garbage on my bones to schlepp around.

So good luck to everybody - and to mysself too!

PS SueBee, I LOVE that quote from Yoda: Do, do not do, do not try. emoticon

If you think you can or you think you can't, you are always right. (Henry Ford)
