Hi! I just came across this site today, and joined up immediately. I'm really nervous aobut posting anything about myself, but I hope it'll get better. Perhaps when I've lost my first 10 lbs?

Hi all,
I really just want to get to a point where I feel like I'm in control of my own body. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and I really need to get myself undercontrol. I'm a working mother of 2 beautiful kid. My husband is supportive but he's run out of ideas for how to help me.

Kryall, my advice is to do the two following things to ease site navigation:

1. Make your Start Page your Sparkpeople bookmark. Click on My Tools above, and bookmark that page. Easy access to the trackers and other features of the site.

2. Use your Spark Points page as your daily checklist of things to do. I've been here for over two years, and I will use it every day! ;) First thing in the morning, the link under "My SparkMoints" at right will say "Get Login Points." Once you spin the wheel each day, it'll change to "View SparkPoints."

I also use the Quick Links over at the right to get to my teams. :)

Hi everyone!
I just found this site randomly a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it so far! I'm from the UK but am currently living in Spain for a year and have put on some weight because of the different food and eating times (plus being in a new country I feel like I'm constantly on holiday and eat out more than normal!)

I lost weight before and am not close to my size before but I thought I would try a new way to lose the weight I put on since being in Spain. It would be great to do it with other people!
I'm still learning how to get around this website... it has a lot of info! If anyone has any advice or tips feel free to pass them on!

Welcome, MJPASCH!

I'm pretty new here, too. I'd never posted anywhere before. But everyone's been really nice.

I know there's a lot here, and it can seem overwhelming when you're new. I'd suggest just taking it slowly, and get use to the site. It will be a great help and motivator!

I'd take baby steps getting started. Try eating one more veggie than you're use to, drink one more glass of water. Move for 10 minutes most days, whether walking, or dancing around the house, or whatever you prefer. As these steps get easier, you can add to them.

Some days you may fall down. That's ok, we all do. We're human. Just pick yourself up and get back on the path.

I feel that by taking small steps and adding to them, I'm developing healthy habits that will keep me thinner for a lifetime!

I too have become very much a label reader. I can remember a time when I would trust in the label saying low fat etc. Not anymore! Boy have I learned a lot! : ) Keep up the great work :)

For me, I cut out the potato chips more because of the portion size than the salt. I can easily sit down and eat 1/3 to 1/2 a bag in ONE sitting. So I just stopped eating them period. Maybe later I can add in a SINGLE serving size bag, occasionally. But it did cut a lot of salt out of my diet at the same time. I'm sure the water weight will come back. :-(

Cutting the sodium down really is a help. Most people don't realize how much of it is in everyday things that you wouldn't expect. I've become a big time label reader... and sodium is often a deal-breaker! ;)

Water or no water, you are doing well! Keep up the great work. I understand about the potatoe chips, here too sits a tater junkie! LOL I was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure about 2 years ago and I too know all too well about the sodium intake and how it effects our body. I have cut the salt and loaded up more on other spices and herbs. I love to tinker in this area. I do a weigh in tomorrow for myself and I know it will read less than 2 weeks ago. I'm sure that a large part of my weight loss is water weight, I cut a HUGE amount of salt out of my diet by giving up potato chips. I was a real potato chip junkie! ;-)

There's a lot of support here, and lots of good examples to inspire us. But ultimately, we are the ones that have to buckle down, start moving, and cut the junk out of our lives.

Congrats on your weight-loss over the 2 weeks of membership on SP. I have been reading so many stories and tips, ideas from other boards and emails it's been so great to know the community is here for us 24/7! I am really learning so much about eating right, not just "dieting"

I'm fairly new here myself. Just a little over 2 weeks.

I'm finding it helpful to start slowly, making just one or two simple changes at a time. I started with aiming for just 5 minutes of exercise most days. (I have some health problems. Most people start with 10.) As that got easier, I added more minutes.

I started with making sure I got 3 fruits and veggies a day. I'm now up to 5.

I feel that diets don't work. By making changes slowly, I'm setting myself up for success with healthy habits that will help me lose and KEEP the weight off for a lifetime.

Hi I just joined on the 22nd.This is just an awesome site. I'm learning my way around but it is so overwhelming at times, all there is to do and don't know exactly what to do first.

emoticon emoticon emoticon TGWood glad to have you here on the team. try to drink plenty of water its really healthy for you. If you have good kidneys then try to drink 8 glasses a day. Not coffee or tea or cola but water. I still drink coffee and green tea and a little diet pop but I get in 8 glasses a day of water. Sometimes coffee and water is all I drink. If you can't exercise much try 3 10 min. a day and work up to more. The Same for water 1 glass a day then maybe 2 then work up. Baby steps will help you.

Hi Everyone! I am new to Sparkpeople and I am loving it. I am 34 years old, with 3 kids and I am currently staying at home with them. You also have to consider that if you're exercising then you may be putting on muscle which weights more than fat. Check your waist, hips, etc. to see if you're losing there. You can't always tell if you're losing because of the muscle but if you check measrements usually you can tell the difference.

I've been told that it's pretty normal for our weight to fluctuate a pound or two on a daily basis.

Sometime days you have a little more salt than others, causing you to retain a little water. Your daily "eliminations" will also fluctuate daily, and effect your weight.

An average weight over a period of 2 or 3 days is a more accurate indicator of how much you've really gained or lost.

My Dr. told me there is such a thing as drinking too much water but he said if you have healthy kidneys that 8 glasses is about right. I find its not the water that makes me weight more but sometimes the pop I drink will make me weight more. You will find the water will flush out the fat better. You may have eaten too much bread or carbohydrates.Are you exercising because that helps you to lose the weight if you put on too many calories.

I did manage to get in 6 cups of water in yesterday but now i weigh more than when i started is it the water ? I don't feel swollen or puffy .
