That will be fun, Cathy. I'll be the chubby blonde with a pony tail - probably be reading a book :=)

It's the McDonalds that is across from the IHop.

Now I know what you mean, I got a flyer from Fitness Connection in the mail last week that has been lying on my desk. I'd love to meet for coffee at McD around noon. Cant stay long, have a dr appt at 1:15 over near Morrisville.. Looking forward to meeting you in person....Cathy

Hmmm... I don't think Silver Sneakers is there anymore :-(.

I know that quite a few of the silver sneaker folks who went to Lifestyle gym on Walnut before it closed are going to O2 Fitness at the other end of Cary Parkway.

But you are welcome to come to any of the classes at Fitness Connection, Cathy. You go at your own pace. Zumba can be a lot of fun and a favorite.

In a little bit I'm going there to a Bodystep class. When I first tried the class a year ago I could barely keep up. And now I can kin of keep up :-)

If you want, we could meet at McDonald's on Kildaire in salt box shopping center for coffee, etc and we can encourage each other in person.

I'm going to a Bodyflow class tomorrow till 11:30 am. If you want to meet at mcdonalds at around 12 let me know!

Thanks for replying. Actually I have a Senior Sneakers membership at that gym. I started going about 2 years ago, then took an extended trip to Florida for a few months, and since then have not returned. Maybe knowing at least other other person there will help me get over the hump of "starting"! I'll let you know when I plan to go, maybe I'll start in some of those Silver Sneakers classes...have to check to see just what they are doing on their web site...

Sounds like you're making good progress, Cathy!

Do you go to a gym in the area. My husband an I are members at fitness connection on kildaire by trader joes if you ever want to check I out!

Let me know if you do and we can say hello in person there.

I love the group fitness classes there especially.

Good morning Cary Sparkers, I'm Cathy, live near Hwy 1 and Kildare Farms, single 67 year old woman who weighed 184 (all time lifetime high) 12 months ago. Somehow I got 10 pounds off last spring, and have kept it off. Now I'm serious about getting to a really healthy weight, and have lost down to 158. I bought several sweaters and pants over the past 3 weeks iin a size Large (have been XL or 2XL for years), and am getting a lot of spontaneous feedback from friends and relatives on how much better I look. Very gratifying, and this gives me even more determination to get some more weight off.

I started "Sparkiing" about a month or so ago, mainly wanted a food diary with nutrition info. Right away I liked it, because the "join up" questions created a Diabetic Menu and suggestions for me. I have been counting carbs for a few years now, so this tool not only helps me be aware of just what is going into my mouth, but also has the carb value right up front.

I've also noticed I'm not really eating a rounded diet, my fiber and protein are usually below the "goal" range. Today I have decided to get a fiber supplement to add to my morning coffee each day. I'm a firm believer in the power of fiber. Also, I will start working more beans into my diet, since that boosts fiber and protein.

Last week I bought a box of 12 preformed turkey burgers with no added stuff. Those are in my freezer in case I get a real "meat" craving...And I bought some baby carrots to eat when I want ice cream or gooey bakery treats. I'm gradually getting the unhealthy stuff out of the pantry and fridge but it's slow going. I feel like I go 2 steps forward and 1 step back (sometimes the opposite!), but it's been a long time since I even tried to eat healthy.

So, probably more than you really wanted to know, but once I got started, it just kinda spilled out... I hope we all have a healthy 2012!!
