There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example, I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.

Welcome to Birds and Blooms. We look forward to hearing what birds you have in your very big yard! Good luck with your weight loss. Going on bird walks is a fun way to exercise!

Hi all,
I wonder if there's a limit to how many teams one can have? LOL I've found so many that appeal to me.

I absolutely love birds. I've been watching in my backyard for years until I met my husband and now we live on 20 acres worth of land in the form of a stream, some forest, some farmland, and a little yard. We are members of the National Wildlife Federation and our local Potomac Audubon Society.

Recently, since I've started SP, our local Audubon society had a wildflower festival and hike and I went with another SP member and we walked the 1-3 mile hike. What a neat way to get your exercise in. There weren't many birds because there was too much foot traffic, but I did hear a red bellied woodpecker.

For the past two years, we've also participated in the North American Backyard Bird Count. That's neat.

The species that we have are - if I can remember them all:

Northern Cardinal, Blue Jay, Cowbird, Tufted Titmouse, Junco, Red Winged Blackbird, Grackle, Starling, Robin, Goldfinch, Blue Indigo, Mourning Dove, Red Finch, House Wren, Carolina Wren, Carolina Chickadee, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Downy Woodpecker, Red Shouldered Hawk, Barred Owl, Wild Turkey, Hummingbird, Raven, Mockingbird, White Breasted Nuthatch, Red Breasted Nuthatch, and I'm sure I missed someone...LOL

This year as part of starting SP, I wanted to add more hikes for exercise and I've done that so far. It's so neat to hike and see these birds.

Um, let's see..what else? We have three birdbaths, two suet feeders, two tube feeders, three house feeders. We feed with black oiled sunflower, peanut hearts, cracked corn, safflower seed, and finch food.

Let's add to that I absolutely love the outdoors, but recently had allergy testing done and I'm allergic to so many pine trees AND bird feathers..go figure...I'm not about to have those allergies ruin my love for birds and wildlife!

Who have you encouraged today?
