I've been hiking in the McDowell preserve since its inception and have yet to see a coyote there except from way off - have actually seen more loping through the greenbelt off Hayden Road in the middle of town (with all the golf courses and watering, food is more plentiful and easier to catch). If you are concerned with coyotes, javelinas, and other large criters, go to the dollar store and buy a simple whistle to hang around your neck. If you see anything, blow hard and they'll run in the other direction to get away from that shrill sound. Our surroundings are too beautiful for us to cower inside while everything else gets to enjoy it. Hope you get out there!

Thanks so much for your encouragement. I am currently attending the Zone in Scottsdale over by Northsight. SCC is a little far from me. However, I may take you up on on hiking one day but after being here a year and living close to McDowell Mountain, I have not yet conquered my fear of coyotes!

Welcome Theresa!
Glad you found this site - it's helped me lose over 65 pounds in two years and get my life and body back after breast cancer. Like a lot of other 50-60-70s, I work out at Scottsdale Community College Fitness Center 3x/week, walk 2-3 miles in the greenbelt, and go hiking in the mountain preserve. I'm also paddling as part of a dragon boat team once/week at Tempe Town Lake . If any of these sound interesting to you, and you'd like a fitness buddy for help with motivation and accountability, let me know and we can arrange an exercise session somewhere together. I'm a voracious reader, and am soooooo jealous of your writing ability! You've obviously been through some physical challenges - this is just one more to get through.

Hi

My name is Theresa! I am an author with five books out right now and working on another. I have gained a lot of weight for two reasons...prednisone for a liver disease and depression which caused lack of movement! Well as I turned 54 yesterday, I have decided I really need to get back to being Fit, Fine and Fabulous at 50+! I want to reach my goal of losing 60 lbs and then have a tummy tuck. The tummy tuck is necessary. I had two c-sections and a hysterectomy all using the same cut! Thus there is no muscle there.

I think this site will help me quite a bit. I did start a week ago to write down everything I was eating as well as started with the 10k steps a day (per Dr. Oz) and I went to the Zone in Scottsdale just once so far, but getting there.

I appreciate any encouragement!

Thank you
