Hi there fellow intrepid mover! When I moved out here on Aug 1, people said I was insane for coming right in the middle of the weather that has others running for cover. I figured if I headed right into the worst that could be thrown at me, the rest would be a snap. For me at least, that's held up and 32 years later I'm still here and loving it.

Scottsdale has a great Parks and Rec department and there's a greenbelt running north/south right down the middle of the city with over 47 miles fr off-road paths for walking/jogging/biking/skating. It has outdoor playgrounds/tennis courts/swimming pools, ballfields/volleyball courts and offers sign-ups for teams to fill them. Inexpensive classes are offered covering the spectrum from Aerobics to Zumba, with just about every letter accounted for. The crown jewel (as far as I'm concerned) is the Scottsdale Mountain Preserve. Twenty years ago the voters here opted to start buying up large tracts of the gorgeous mountain land that rims the city and keep it for everyone's use rather than going for high end developer snatching. The result is over a dozen well planned and maintained trails (multi-use for hiking, biking, equestrian) ranging from easy to fairly difficult. All have parking, bathrooms, and water. Maps are available of the three major groupings and trailheads and docents are there on the weekends to help. Gyms, spas, and fitness clubs abound and Scottsdale Community College has a fitness center open to the public that college and pro ball teams have used when coming to the Valley to play games.

This area is a fitness lover's dream, and offers as much or as little as you want. Have fun!

Sooooooo technically I'm not in Scottsdale yet but I'm moving there in August so I thought I'd get a head start. My name is Allison, I'm 23 years old and recently rejoined the single ladies club so now I want to get healthy for myself.

What I'm wondering is, what is there to do in the area for activity? I'm moving from Wisconsin so there's a good chance I'll be doing a lot swimming way into the fall but can people post some of their fave parks, gyms, trails, or other clubs?

Pretty please? emoticon
