Lots of flowers here for a lot of the year. It is very dry though now, it was a very hot summer. The Mediterranean climate is a strange climate. My favorite thing is rosemary, thyme, sage, etc all grow wild in the countryside around us. So when you walk through it, it smells like roasting chicken.

Hi everyone. I’m a step counter, but I try for 7000 a day and get up to 16000 depending. I have recently injured my foot, so have cut back. And I’m getting used to new insoles from the podiatrist.
I live in France, in a city that is mostly pedestrian, so there is a lot of opportunity to walk.

Hi! I'm Debbie and I live in Texas. I have pushed my walking up to 5 days a week and I rest on the weekends. I suffer from arthritis really bad...the perils of getting old. I am a traumatic brain injury survivor and I struggle with it multiple times a day. My Fitbit Blaze has been a real eye opener regarding how little steps I was actually getting in the course of the day.

I am new to the team but not to Spark. Looking forward to interacting with you all! Sunday is my rest day. I basically get most of my steps in chasing around four year olds in the Sunday School class I teach with my dad and son. All that to say, I usually do not hit the target of 10K on that day but today is Monday so I am determined. I hope you all have a blessed New Year! I plan on bringing in the New Year at home with my guys! I have two sons at home and hubby!

Greetings team. You can call me Bev or Grammy. I am a retired church secretary and bible college registrar, but DH is still working. We have 2 sons, lovely daughters-in-law and 4 grandkids: 21, 17, 9, 7 y/o. I currently live in the SF Bay Area, but am hoping to move to Medford, Oregon eventually. DH & I recently got FitBit Charge 2 and have been motivated to walk. Tonight I searched Spark Teams that would help keep me motivated and found 10K Steps a Day. Perfect! I currently have some health issues. I had 2 surgeries this month and have 2 more surgeries scheduled in the next few weeks. I am super focused on regaining my health as much as possible. Nice to meet you all.

I'm glad to be here, am here mostly because I am struggling to get in at least 10K steps a day. Currently my norm is between 3-5, but at dog events, it can explode to over 12K. Getting at least 10K per day would build a better base (and maybe leave me not quite so tired!) for all the things I want to do.

I am going to camp, so I will be getting (probably) 10K steps in or more per day, but won't be on sparkpeople very much. But we'll see! Fun to be here!

I used to be a member of this team - until I got busy tending to my ailing hubby and counting steps became depressing because I became housebound with him. Being housebound with hubby was not depressing - just logging no steps was.

Anyway, I lost my Ray in May and am getting back into my daily walking with my new companion, Bubba, a 29 lb Boston Terrier that needed a home.
God Blessed me with Bubba when he called my Ray back home at the ripe old age of 96 yrs 8 mos.

The reasons to be back are sad - but I am glad to be back on the team again.

Hi I'm Tina from MN. I started this week attempting to start doing 10K each day with a Joe Cross challenge on FB. So far I've done 2 days since Monday. Tuesday was not a good day but that's way better than I have been doing! I plan on getting there today too. I've been on Sparks for almost a year now, 2 more weeks! Been away for awhile, but I am back now. I have been utilizing SP consistently since Aug 1st. I started with the "Find 10" challenge to build on consistency. I have been consistent now, with both exercise and nutrition, for over 40 days and I am down 6 lbs. Also working on increasing endurance and steps.

hi there! i'm new to the team - i've been a fitbit fan since december 2012, on spark actively since march 2012 (first joined 2009). my goal is to average 15,000 steps daily, with 10,000 as the minimum for busy days. we hike, jog, and when we are home in the US, we are out with our border collie who loves to make sure we get our steps in.

hello ive been with sparks people for a few years off and on. Would love to make it a goal to reach 10,000 steps a day, sounds easy enough but I have found that it does take some extra time and effort. I enjoy the feeling of an accomplished work out but sometime lack the motivation to start. hoping that this small goal with launch my healthy life style

Yesterday I recommitted to walking more and sitting in front of my computer less. I ended up walking for 61 minutes and dang proud for doing it.

On another note... I ate a take-out meal that was totally full of grease because I was too hungry to just say no. I told dh not to bring that home for me anymore because of all the grease AND I will make sure never to get that hungry again... remembering that I can't "outwalk" my fork. Good luck everyone!

Can't remember if I introduced myself or not. I started with SP in February, when the doctor told me I was prediabetic with a cholesterol count at stroke levels. She didn't have to tell me I'm overweight and under-exercised.

I'm now down a few pounds, and got myself a Fitbit this week to help encourage me to move.

I've set a starting goal of 4,000 steps per day, something I'm pretty sure I can do. With arthritic hips and knees and one bad foot, plus ongoing exhaustion, I thought that would be challenge enough. I plan to up my goal by 10 percent every couple of weeks.

I love to hike in the mountains, and see things on foot, and in my current condition, that's impossible. I'm looking forward to being active again, and getting to know folks here.

Nevertheless, she persisted.

Been a member since, Sunday, and realized that I had not done this yet. My name is Suzanne and I have previously been a member since 2009. Things happened in 2010 and then I had breast Cancer in 2013, Now a 3+ year survivor. Wanting to get healthy and keep the cancer away. I am a homecare nurse and I work in and out of the office. It is difficult sometimes to get my walking in if I have a day of windshield time. Hoping to get worked up to 10,000 steps. Right now I realized that my pedometer and my fitness tracker don't really measure the same. off by about 1000 steps. I guess that I will go with the fitness tracker, any thoughts? Anyway, I am looking forward to getting really active with the team and get up to my 10,000 steps.

Hi, my name is Cheri and I love walking a getting my steps in. I used to run but that has become harder as I've become older. I still run walk sometimes( emphasis more on the walking) . I try to walk outside when weather permits but love my indoor walking dvds as well. My goal is to get between 10,000- 15,000 steps per day and most days achieve that. I'm hoping this team can help me to stay motivated to maintain that.

I usually log between 4 -5k a day but I am beginning to challenge myself more. I just saw where a newer member is going to add 500 steps in increments to get to 10k steps, I like this idea. It may take me a few months to get there but the weather is getting better and the dog likes to get out when it is warmer. Here's to happy trails!

Hi everyone, I am a librarian in Nebraska who buckled down on her health back in October. My hospital gave me a FitBit to help encourage my weight loss and I started with a goal of 1500 steps per day. Since then I have worked my way up to a goal of 7000 per day, and I am slowly trying to work my way to 10000 per day in 500 step increments. Right now I am averaging 7000-8000 M-Sa, and tend to take Sundays off as my "do nothing" day. I am hoping to be able to consistently hit 8000 per day in the next month or two and be able to work up to 8500 per day by summer.

Hello everyone, my name is Tammy. A few days ago I made it past 14,000 steps but I was overdoing myself also. I need to lose this excess weight. I have been walking at a nearby mall before the stores open up. It is great for the winter time, it is climate controlled. I am hoping to gain more health benefits from walking other than just losing weight. I am fighting depression, and medical conditions. My goal is to at least make 10,000 steps daily.

Hey everyone! My "real" name is Debra and I'm 61, married and live in Germany (a dog, no kids). Since I have a dog, I do walk every day although not always 10,000 steps. I wear a FitBit Blaze so I can track my steps pretty easily.

Getting older means losing mobility if you don't keep moving. That is one of my major reasons for wanting to walk 10K steps a day. Of course, the other reason is to keep my weight down.

Good Afternoon Everyone.

I'm Michael from Santa Clara California.
I'm 68 and a type1 diabetic on an insulin pump.
I've been walking for a bit over a year with my fitbit but years without it before. I walk most days at least 5 miles and some days 8-10 depending on how I feel.
So far I've logged over 2500 lifetime miles.
I look forward to being in the group

Michelle here! I have been tracking my steps for over a year now and although most days I get 10,000 to 14,000 steps average daily there are some days when I don't hit 10,000 steps. But I get up every day and do my best. Today was a good day at 12,000 steps.
Hoping this team will help me to be accountable and get my steps in every day.

Hi I am new to this group and I have 50 pounds to lose. I have to admit being a little disheartened with weight loss. Does this 10000 steps really help you lose weight? I got a fit bit to track steps and really want to lose these pounds. Previous attempts have not worked. Thanks.

Hi, my name is Pat and I live in Glen Allen, VA .

I have a fitbit alta and I love it. It is a great motivator and I rarely miss gettIng in my 250 steps an hour.

Lately, I have been trying to walk 10 miles a day, for at least 5 days. Last week I exceeded my goal and walked over 150,000 steps. Hopefully I will make this week too.

When the weather is bad, I walk in the mall, but most I've ever mall walked is 6 miles. It gets a bit boring but it gets the job done. I will have to figure out how I am going to get the other 4 miles in! Maybe someone from this team will have a clever idea on this?

I am introducing myself again because I have been away from spark people for almost 6 years now and during that time I have gotten away from walking and my weight has climbed up to ~185 lbs. So I am back, walking, drinking more water, and working on losing this excess baggage.

I am a widow, have been seeing some one regular since Feb '09 who has been getting on me about my weight and so here I am.

Before when I was active I had gotten up to over 20,000 steps per day, now I am lucky to get between 6,000 - 7,000 but I am working on getting back to a regular 10,000 per day. I am currently using an app on my iphone but that isn't the most accurate, especially when it is on the charger and I am walking around.

So I am back, and working hard to get back on track.

Hello,
I am relatively new to Spark People. I got a fitbit last November and was able to get 10,000 steps a day (or 70,000 steps a week if there were days that I knew I could not make the goal).

This summer I had a bad lapse because of the number of very hot days.

I want to recommit.

So off I go to take another walk! This seems like a great team and I'll need to come back and read more.

Hi, my name is Kerry, but in some circles I'm better known as Trouble.
TALLYFL told me I should join this team since I'm trying to get back to walking every day. Earlier this year I was up to 15-20K per day, but when I lost my job in July, I quit walking. Two months without regular walking and the weight is creeping back on instead of coming off.
What I needed is some place to be accountable since I won't force myself unless I know someone is expecting it from me.

I don't see where I've introduced myself. I am Elizabeth and I live in Tallahassee - Florida's capital city.

When I got my Spark activity tracker in October of 2013 I struggled to get the preset 6K steps a day. Now I get over 10K every day. My streak tracker inadvertently got reset recently but the last time I didn't get my 10K was 131 days ago - April 22nd. I missed goal by 72 steps! Boo, hiss!

Hello I am new here but I have been walking for a few years and when I first started I had no problem getting my 10,000 steps but after taking some time off I am having trouble getting my steps regularly. I am really looking for the motivation to get back into making this a priority any help is appreciated.

Hi, So glad to have found this team. I have been trying to keep track of my steps with walking indoors and out . So far I have averaged 8--10k steps a day but my goal is to average 10-20k a day. Love walking. It is my favorite exercise especially outdoors in nature when the weather permits otherwise I do my walking dvd's. Anything I can do I will do to get my steps in.

Hello. I am Kathleen and I am new here. My husband surprised me with a Fitbit Alta for my birthday end of June.. I just love it and I also like to walk. Now that I have the Fitbit I have been able to track my steps and I aim for 10,000 steps daily. Most of the time I walk 10,000+. I walk on a treadmill at my local gym. I walk to keep healthy but my goal is to lose weight. Looking forward to loging my steps here daily.

Anything else you want to share: I am self employed as a house cleaning service called Sparkling Clean. I clean houses M-F 8am - 3:00pm. I am always amazed with as much movement as I do each day that I am overweight. It's been a great job and has provided me a living - I acutally love it and my customers.

I also became debt free except my house last year. This year I am getting my body back in shape. I love meeting my goals and hope to succeed at my weight issues too!
