Good morning!

I just joined this team. I'm a long time user of SparkPeople, but due to personal issues have not been very active recently. It's time to get active again! So I broke out the pedometer and found that my 20k a day has been drastically reduced in average to only 5k a day. WOW!

So, my goals:
* 10k steps a day
* Prepare for a May 5k run with my daughter
* Lose that final 7 pounds

Hi Everyone,
I'm Tia and I ran across your team while signing up for a virtual 5k here on Spark. I've been counting my steps for about 3 months now. I was so excited to run across a team here on Spark devoted to gettin'g steps! I've been a member of spark for a while now. However, I've been focused on losing weight for 7 1/2 months now. I'm down 30 and working on 45 more lbs via getting my steps in, cycling and Curves for strength training. I look forward to being a part of the team and participating in the challenges!

Hello everyone,

I'm new here. After a pedometer snaffu, I started counting steps last week. I'm starting with modest goals (posted my Feb goals in the appropirate board) as I've been *incredibly* sedentary for the past 3 years and I have to contend with a bad knee which sometimes makes it hard to walk. Still, I am determined to get fit and strong so, I'm starting to focus on the number of steps I take daily, hoping to increase them gradually as my leg muscles get stronger.

I look forward to getting to know all of you better! :-)

Welcome Laura, A thing that may help with the pedometer clip it on in the morning as soon as you get up. You will be amazed at how quickly the steps will add up. This is a wonderful team as stated previously, tremendous support from all members and our leaders are the best!

Hello everyone. My name is Laura and I'm from NC, USA. I'm not new to SP, been a member since August 2009. I'm also not new to using a Pedometer. I use an Omron. I've had it for over a year now. I had to work hard to get up to 10,000 steps a day but I'm very happy to say that's my daily goal. Over the months I had to build up to that many steps a day and have learned a few tricks along the way. I'm looking forward to all the team chatter, suggestions and sharing. Happy stepping everyone!

Hi, I'm Diana from England. I've been with SP for 5 wonderful weeks and have been building my fitness levels steadily. (The 6lbs lost has been a bonus too!) Knees are a bit on the moody side, which rules out running but hey, I can walk.

I set myself a 'Save as you Exercise' target and, with my hard-earned spark points for ús, I've bought an Omron Walking II. Set it up today and, once I'd worked out that the mysterious EI.9I was the time upside down, there's been no stopping me. LOL

I've been looking for the right challenge since I completed Bootcamp last week. I'd love it if you would accept me as a member. Ommie and I are ready for action...

Thank you. It's good to know that its a goal not a requirement. It always helps to see that in black and white even if its my assumption to start. Just like I did with the Just Dance challenges, I think I need to 'compete' with myself and just try to better my own count. I'll just keep going and sooner or later my numbers should grow.

Hello and welcome to this very motivated team - great you already have a pedometer and yes, just like Becky say - as soon as you get up and last thing at night - it stays on you like glue!

The winter months are very challenging for walking outside but if you have house stairs, or dvds to work with, you'll be surprised how quickly they mount up!

But it must be said, 10K is the goal - so move at your own pace and gradually you will increase your steps, so until you feel comfortable with a larger commitment, aim for 5k a day to take you out of your comfort zone and once that becomes easy - up your game!

Good luck and join in with the challenges - its our way of giving you the motivation and encouragement you need and want.

Welcome Brenda and Helane! I wear my pedometer all day long. It's the first thing I do when I get dressed in the morning. Every step counts no matter what. I also find that if I don't do any workout, it's really hard to get 10k in unless it's the summer and I've got outdoor things to do. It takes awhile to figure out what you need to do to get to 10k. If you go out and walk or do some other cardio, you'll find the numbers add up much faster. Good Luck!

Hi All -

I joined SP a few weeks ago - shortly after turning 49 when I noticed that to be healthier and thinner by 50 (previously a LONG range goal) I'd need to get started. I'm looking to SP for motivating and community since I have followed WW and other programs before, with varied success. I know how to eat, it's just a matter of DOING it. I'm also looking for some exercise I will keep up with.

Based on some info from different SP sources I have recently gotten an Omron pedometer. In the last few days, I barely break 3000 steps. I know it should be 10K for health/wt loss, but how do you do that?

Also, any ideas about the Leslie Sansone teams? I've got many of her DVD's and do them occasionally, but don't know why there are so many different WATP teams.

Sorry for being so longwinded, but any feedback would help.

Welcome, Welcome Brenda - great to see you here.

Absolutely you must wear your ped during the dvd, everyone else does, its not just 'going out for a walk' that counts, its all walking, even around the house! So if your steps go above the 10k then wow, it shows us just how active you are so enjoy!

You can join in the Monthly personal steps any time you want, your steps are precious!

Hi! My name is Brenda. I'm from Peoria, AZ; 43 years old with 2 adult children. I love to walk. I purchased a great pedometer which is really making me conscience of my steps per day.
I use the Leslie Sansone's Walk at Home DVDs - however, I don't keep my pedometer on during these workouts. Should I? I know that if I were to keep it on then I would reach the 10K steps per day goal, on the other hand, if I do the workouts and then try to get as close to 10K as I can without the workout steps that is that much more fitness I'm getting in. I'm not sure which way to use it.
This is the first team I've been on and I'm looking forward to the motivation it will bring.

You log in your daily steps (mine is between 5K - 7K)and it helps you see your progress for the month. You are only in competition with yourself, so that makes it nice!

Returning to SP and returning to the team! Someone tie a rope to me and keep me here and keep me going this time PLEASE :)) I generally walk between 4500 and 7500 a day, so it will be a push to get to 10K, but I'm determined.
