Hi, I am Melissa from Georgia, I am new to all this. Even though I have had a profile here on SparkPeople for a long while this time I really want to use this site because I have heard so much from others that it really helps and works.
I had a knee injury and the doctor said I could start out slow so I suggested walking and he was all for it. I walked a little bit yesterday and found this team today and thought it would be good for me to meet others and gain motivation so I will not quit or give up.
It is going to be a beautiful day here today as well.

believe that you have received it,
and it will be yours. (NIV)

I only take one day at a time, and not worry about the past. Right now is what is important.

Hello, my name is Kristie, I am new. I am hoping to find a lot of encouragement and support on here. Hope to meet new friends as well.

Hi!

I joined SP in Frebruary with a broken ankle and my leg in plaster - and a high chance of couch-potato-ing and putting on even more weight!

Now that the plaster's off and I'm almost back to normal, I'd like to start wearing the pedometer and take the first steps towards 10,000 a day.

I think I'll start at 5,000 or 6,000. My goal at this stage is to log in regularly and gradually work up to a daily total of 10,000.

Wish me luck!

Batya

Hi - I'm a new member! I recently joined this SparkTeam and look forward to participating in the step challenge. I wear a pedometer from Virgin (yes, Richard Branson's company) and I actually have the opportunity earn cash for the steps I walk. At any rate, I'm excited to join the team.

Thanks!

Good Morning All,

I just read a bunch of articles on the benefits of walking and thought I'd join one of the walking groups to help me with this goal.

I've been walking since last August but not as consistently as I'd like. I've also been trying to reach 10,000 steps a day since I joined Sparkpeople a month ago. 10k steps is a challenge for me (I'm usually in the 4k range when I don't go for a planned walk and 6k when I do). I've only hit 10k once in the past month and I was so wiped out afterward that I was in bed by 8:30 that night.

I think I'm going to try and break this goal up into pieces. Walking at lunch and in the evening while I continue taking the stairs at work and whatever else I can do to reach this goal.

Sandy

I have been walking 10,000 steps 3X's a week for 2 years. I never leave home without my pedometer. I have recently made a life decision to lose the 50 lbs. I have been battling with for the last 10 years. I would love the support of others doing the same thing. I am married but my husband does not exercise so most of the time I am doing this alone.

Hi... I live in Michigan and am trying to lose 30-50 lbs. before I have knee replacements. Walking has always been the ideal way for me to shape up and lose weight, but it has also become more of a physical challenge than ever before. My goal is to walk 10,000 steps a day; my success is getting as close as possible to that goal.

Good Afternoon, from Portland, OR, it's very wet this last Monday of March. Please check out my SparkPage. I wear a Timex pedometer that gives me calorie counts, step counts, and the time I have walked. I generally walk 10,000 steps, today, it's cold and wet, maybe not today though. Yes, I am a weather woss, spelled right? Anyway, seems like a good team, thanks for the different team goals, joined in no problem! emoticon

Good morning everyone! Wearing a pedometer and counting steps helped me to bring my cholesterol back into a healthy range with a normal BMI. I joined this team to help me continue to maintain my activity level as I enter maintenance of my home weight range.
Looking forward to cheering you on and appreciating the support.

I stumbled upon this team, this morning. I've been wearing a pedometer, every day, for the past several years. Walking 10,000 steps per day is one of the items on my Fitness Tracker list. I'm happy to be a member of this team!

My name is Sharon and I'm very excited about this group. A Spark friend mentioned getting a pedometer and trying to get in 10,000 steps a day. Just purchased one yesterday and wore it today for the first time. Got 10,000 in today (Sunday) but work is tomorrow and I sit at my desk a lot, so we will see how I go. I'm looking forward to lots of support....I am very close to achieving my weight goal.

Hi. I have been a sparkperson for just over a week now. This team is a natural for me because I am on my feet and moving all day because of the job I do. I am an educational assistant in a high school. Also, I have decided to walk to and from my job every day, so I easily accumulate 10,000+ steps a day. I take a break on weekends, but still manage to average over 10,000 steps a week. I like that something I do routinely as part of my day fits easily into my fitness routine too.
Happy walking everyone! emoticon

I have been a member of SparkPeople since December 2008. I decided to join this team because of the benefits of walking and I would like to strive to reach between 12000-15000 steps/day. This will motivate me to go for walks especially since it is getting nice out now. I look forward to 'walking' with all of you!

I always hate the introduction... do I only say my name, do I go into detail about myself, do I say why I want to join, what do I say??? Here is what I've come up with.

My name is Patti and I joined SP this month. I found this team because I looked at someone else's page and they belonged to the team so I came and joined and just lurked around watching.

I bought a pedometer a couple of years ago, well I dusted it off and challenged myself to get 5k steps a day - with an office job I figured that was as good of a place to start as any... but now I am thinking why not 6k????

Life is an attitude, if you don't like your life, change your attitude!

Christine, Welcome! Next: Choose your hard: being overweight, under fit and set yourself up for untold illnesses and not be able to take care of your kids, to list a few problems, or finding the time for you and exercise and eat healthy?

We on this team all have challenges. I work 2 careers, run my household, pamper my cats-they are demanding!, and am training to walk the toughest 1/2 marathon in the Pacific Northwest. LOL

You will find tons of support here, no sympathy though. LOL

Start stepping and keep going.

Hello my name is Jane. These is my first time to introduce myself. I have always enjoyed walking and being outdoors. Where I work started a program for wellness and they will give rewards for walking at least 10000 steps a day so I have two motivations to get me moving, sparkpeople and work. emoticon

My husband and I just got back from Snap Fitness. It is a great time to go, early in the morning. Yesterday I put on 21,000 steps and today I already have almost 8,000!!!
I do have a question. I would like to track my weight on the graph but I do not know how to access it. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Brian. Yes, children can be a very good motivator. They want to have a healthy parent. You want to be a great example and be in their lives a very long time.

So, get to steppin and eating healthy.
