emoticon I lost 15lbs after joining Sparks about 10 mths ago, and have gained it back.

I have a few illnesses along with a thyroid condition. My meds are always being changed & that doesn't help with the weight loss much. I lost 85lbs before joing Sparks. And now am really upset with myself that I have to start over again. So afraid if I don't get a handle on myself I will gain all that weight back. emoticon

SOOOO I am going to try very hard & am sure I need all the help I can get!

Good Luck everyone!

Hi all,
I just joined today. I have hit an all time high with my weight and am tired of feeling sluggish. I have a 6 year old son and want to have more energy to keep up with him. Also, it is important to me to be a better role model than I have been.

Looking forward to losing with you all!

HI! I am Valerie, and I live on the central coast of California. A friend introduced me to Sparkpeople last week, and I have just been poking around...tracking my excercise and food and reading lots of articles :o)

I have been on WW since last September, and like GEEZMOM5 I lost and regained the same pounds over and over. (very frustrating)

I have gained over 60 pounds over the last two years due to an ankle injury having limited mobility...so I am looking forward to moving again and getting rid of all of this burdensome weight!!

Hi everyone! I've been picking around on this site and reading some on the boards for a couple of days now so I should at least introduce myself. I have about 60 pounds to lose and looks like this site will make that 60 pounds get outta here less painfully (mentally!) :)

Second Goal: walk 2 mi./ day

Welcome, Friar John ... you can count on plenty of support and encouragement from your fellow team members.

I grew up in Chicago and was educated (in grade school) by Dominican sisters ... boy, does that bring back memories!

One of the advantages you will have in your new ministry is that you will be surrounded by young, energetic people, some of whom - no doubt - will be able to give you fitness pointers or may be willing to act as coaches or mentors. Find out where the fitness/training rooms are and use them! Also, being on campus should give you plenty of opportunity to walk, regardless of your hours.

I know what it's like not to be in control of the meals that are placed in front of you, but you will have control over portions. One of the newer tools being promoted suggests that you fill half your plate with vegetables, one quarter with protein and the remaining quarter with carbohydrates. If you are consistent with this you will not need to concentrate on counting calories. The best way to eat throughout the day is to have three main meals and three snacks. Just make good choices for snacks ... fruits, fiber-rich carbs, nuts, yogurt, etc. I believe you will succeed!

Hi, Newmarilyn,
Welcome to Spark People and our group! In answer to your question about adding pictures and the weight tracker, just to to "My Tools" then "Start" then go to "Account/email preferences." It's easy to follow and you can add as much or as little info as you like to your profile.

Hey everybody...I'm April from southern California. I finally got started on this website. I hope to finally accomplish my biggest fear, losing wt. I have two wonderful boys: 2 and 6. Although they're up and about, I can't seem to catch up with them because I'm easily demotivated by my exertion and busy schedule with nursing school. BUT...I do want to make changes in my life for the sake of my health. It feels good to know that I'm not the only one struggling with wt loss and that there are people out there who have made the same decision to finally do it too.

Luv'n ~Lil Lady~

Hi, I'm Sue and I found Sparkpeople a couple of weeks ago. Due to a number of health and emotional issues I regained about 60 of the 75 pounds I had lost about 5 years ago. My immediate goal is to not gain any weight in the next 3-4 weeks while I'm doing a lot of traveling. My long-term goal is to be at goal by my brother-in-law's wedding next June. I don't want to be the fat cow in the family pictures like I was in some last fall.

Hey Everyone! I am Gail, just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to everyone. I am from Sunny So California. I am a mom of five; 18, 16, 15, 2 and almost 4 months. They are great! I have about 96 pounds to lose and you would with trying to keep up with them it would be a piece of cake.

I am a member of weight watchers and started out at 302 pounds. finding it "fun" to balance work, keeping up with kids, keeping up with dad and my weight loss. My husband is a huge Steeler fan and coaches baseball. I started back up at WW after having my youngest and have been losing the same 3 pounds for 13 weeks now!! But i know what I am supposed to be doing, as I did it week before last. I am hoping with the added support from this site I will be able to lose more than my three pounds.

Hope to see you around - and drop me a note to say "Hey!"

Hello everyone!

I joined SP last weekend. I love this site!!

I have been dieting since May 29th. I need to lose 70 lbs. I am setting small goals (every 5 lbs.) instead of looking at the "big picture". This is keeping me very motivated.

I am not following the Sparks plan, instead I am eating mostly fruits and vegetables. For dinner each night I am having either chicken (grilled) or some type of fish. I am also drinking lots of water.

I am having back pain at the moment so I can not exercise a whole lot. Hopefully, this will change!

I love what I have seen so far here and am looking forward to making new friends. emoticon

Hello everyone, I'm Shaunna. I'm 19 years old, and I have been a member here for a few days. So far, I love it. I find it really easy to use, and very helpful.

Now before I eat something that's bad for me, I just think that I'm going to have to log it in..lol. So that has been keeping me on track.

Everyone is really nice here, and I plan on being around for a while :)

Hi, I'm John, a 39-year-old Catholic priest and Dominican friar.

I've been overweight since childhood, but I was one of those people to whom folks said "You're not really faaaaat" when they wanted to make me feel good about myself. As I appraoch my 40th birthday, however, I am also closing in on 300 pounds and people stopped saying those kinds of things a long time ago. Now I have just become another example of the stereotypically overweight priest.

I'm here because I'd like to change that. For the past three years I've been working with college students and I'm getting ready to begin ministry on a new campus. I'd like to be healthier and have more energy for that ministry. I'd also like to give a more authentic example to the young people I know.

My challenges include a very hectic ministry, odd hours, and lack of control over the meals I eat and the foods that are kept in the house. (I live in community with others and we share shopping and cooking duties). On the positive side I have strong motivation, great support and encouragement from my community, and now, the awesome resources here at SP (thanks so much!). My goal is to lose 90 pounds--so I expect to be a long-timer around here.

Peace, joy, and health to all!

This is my first day on Sparks. I have tried almost everything in the past. Lost seom weight but then put more back on. I have 100 pounds to lose but am not trying to think of that large number since it is difficult to stay motivated if I think about ALL the weight that I need to lose in order to be healthier for myself and my son. I am starting out at 264.4 pounds as of today and want to lose down to 165. Much support will be needed and appreciated. emoticon

Hi, I'm Marilyn and I am also new to SparkPeople. I got such a great start and lost 3 pounds the first week. But, this past week I didn't lose anything. I am discouraged, but still exercising. I know part of the problem is that there was a birthday celebration at work (I only ate 1/3rd of what I would typically eat... but it wasn't good. Then, my prayer group went out to dinner 2 days later and I ate "a normal meal", instead of getting a salad or a healthier choice. I guess I just didn't want to seem out of place. But, I have to make some permanent life changes... and this I know. It is really hard. I'm not looking forward to this upcoming week. My children are leaving to be with their father for a whole month, my best friend is moving to Minnesota and my fiancee has decided that he wants to postpone our wedding, which was planned for 2 weeks from this weekend. I don't want to stop exercising or eating right. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers. When I started this current course of losing weight, I was 262 pounds. I am now 234. I have a lot more to lose. P.S. How do I get the pictures added to messages and the weight measures at the bottom of the messages? -Marilyn

I am 35 years old, with a lot to lose!! Weight that is, so I am joined SparkPeople some time back in the fall. Though I haven't had the greatest of successes yet, I have lost 12lbs since Jan. Better than me average of gaining 15+ each year for the past 4 years!! So, I will enjoy the fact the scale isn't rising and start working harder and seeing it falling!! Though I have many goals (most important 1 is to get healthy), I am currenlty working toward losing 45lbs by Thanksgiving as I am going to Hawaii with my husband. This is my first time to Hawaii and I am so excited. Hopefully it will help keep me Sparked to lose, lose, lose!!

Good Luck to all! SparkPeople.com has been an invaluable tool for me, so for those just starting (or restarting) utilize all you can from Spark, it is a great resource to help you reach your goals!

Hello,
I am Maria and I am 28 with 3 children 6, 4, and 2. I am soooo ready to get my weight off. I started spark about 3 weeks ago. I am having a hard time seeing the weight come off on the scales. But I measured myself again today and it is coming off in inches. Just not in spots I need to be able to fit in smaller clothes. I am trying to not get frustrated. I know in the next couple of weeks it will start to come off. I have joined a gym and have been going at least 3 times a week. Building that muscle can be a little bit annoying since it makes you gain weight. I know by this time next month I will feel like a new person. I have 77 pounds to go.

Hi all!

Well, I joined SparkPeople today with a goal of loosing 65 pounds. My name is Robyn and I live in one of the fittest cities in the nation, Denver, and it's time I joined that group. I've been trying to cut calories for a couple of weeks now and doing okay in general but have had a few slips.

This weekend will be tough as my mom is coming and we're headed to Vail for a belated birthday celebration with reservations at two of the best restaurants in Vail Valley. I turned 30 last month and she turned 55 last week. So, I'm going to be good for breakfast and not get too down on myself for Friday and Saturday and then back on the program on Sunday.

Anyhow, I look forward to getting to know you all and journeying through these challenges together.

Robyn

Good evening all!

I haven't been very active on Spark people and the weight gain shows!

I am now looking to get back at this 100% After my vacation, I weighed in at my heaviest - 210.5 I'm down in my first week (first of many) and willing to go the distance this time.

Any help/support is always appreciated. I just got the recent Spark Mail reminder that the group is here and functioning so here goes...

There are alot of threads on here :)

Hopefully we can all find the support we need to get to our goals... Here goes!

Here goes!

Hi,
I joined sparkspeople in May. I will be 50 August 31st and hope to lose weight so that I will be healhtier. Unfortunatly I went to the ER on Friday with bronchsis and I am not able to exercise right now because of chest pains and being short of breath. Today I went back to the doctor and I have to take a steroid for 10 days. So I feel like I have a set back but I will not let it bother me.
I started this trip in February when I didn't know abouth this site. I was torn between going to LA Weightloss and Weightwatchers. After much thought I went to LA Weightloss starting at 207. After the first weekend of "take-off" I was 211 and unhappy with my choice. Today when I went to the doctor I weighed 187 and ready to lose more weight. I realize that I probably won't lose while taking the steroid but this is just for 10 days. I will be back in form and working hard to get back on track at that time.
Good luck to all.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13 NIV

Hi,

I'm Anne. I joined Sparkspeople the last week of April. I have lost 11 pounds. I have about 65 left. I have no problem with exercising. My problem is I love to eat. So far so good. I have only gone over my calorie limit once in the last 2 months.

Hi Everyone! Just joined sparkpeople recently and wanted to introduce myself to this group. I am Stephanie, almost 26 and I have about 80lbs to lose. I have twin 3months olds at home (as well as a two year old) and my stomach is the area that needs the most attention. I really need to tone those muscles. But everywhere needs to be smaller, lol. I am currently 15lbs under my prepregnancy weight but am a standstill right now. Most of that was actually lost during the pregnancy with the twins. With nursing them both, cutting down on how much I eat is not easy, but I can watch what I eat. I think the thing that will help me the most is making sure I find the time to get in some exercise. This is the area that I will need the most help with. Looking forward to getting to know you all. :-)

Hi:

My name is Cathy and I am from Canada. I have been a member since October 26, 2006. I started at 250 lbs and am now at 194 lbs. I have not used this site everyday, but I hope people can help me reach my goal of 150 as I am at a stand still right now. I have started a gym, hoping that will help me get to my goal a little faster. This does so far seem to be going good.

Thank you.

Hey everyone! Of course, I am new to all of the posting stuff and actually haven't even created a sparkpage yet, but I plan to get there!! emoticon One step at a time, right? I plan to lose about 70 pounds total and hope to do it by my birthday next year (March 10th), and it's crazy to realize that there is that much weight on my body that I can lose! emoticon I have other short-term goals, too, and will get those posted soon. But it's time to get back to work so I hope everyone has a great day!! emoticon

Hey, all. I have been in the group for awhile, but never posted to these boards.

I would like to lose between 60 - 70 lbs. total. My first goal is to lose 20 lbs. by the time school starts back up in mid-August. I haven't lost any weight yet. :-( But I have been working out a lot, and counting my calories. Had an off week last week, will get back on track this week!!

Not sure how the new layout of Sparks will work but here is a place to start with new introductions. I'm sure we will change the topics as we learn more about these boards.
