The DASH Diet has been around ohhhh I'm thinking I first heard of it in the 1980's? It is a well respected plan. DASH is an acronym - Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension - and was originally targeting high blood pressure... but it also proved a good way to lose weight.

I have never heard of this dash diet.
I do know that baby steps work best. Start with just changing ONE thing. Maybe no salt shaker on the table or near stove. One more glass of water a day...etc. balance is the key.. take your time, do not feel like you have to do it all at once.

Welcome Mybigfatbutt. I can understand how hard it is to actually get going on a weight loss plan. I can't tell you how many times I have started and slipped and then started again. That is my life story.
I am always trying and it is not easy. My advice to you is what I have started doing last year. I first made a simple plan of cutting back on my portion sizes. Make small changes. And the biggest tip I can give you is
"Just worry about today." Do the best you can today. Don't think about the long haul of the weight loss. Don't think about tomorrow or next week or next year or how much can I lose by a specific date. Just worry about what you do in one day.Take it one day at a time and before you know it, you'll be losing pounds. Best of luck to you. Hope to see you posting here with us.

You might want to check on joining some of the Sparkpeople Teams for HBP, or the DASH team, etc. I'm not sure if the smart phone app lets you go to find teams, as I am too used to going to the teams lookup page through my desktop or through Safari browser on my phone.

I believe this one actually shows the teams I personally have joined. Or it could be your teams, but you can add teams of interest to your needs.

There is a box to search for teams - even if you are not sure of exact names of team, just type in basic topic of interest, like "DASH diet" or "high blood pressure" or "Dallas Cowboys" (haha! Oops! That might be enough to raise your BP, sorry!).

So, what do you consider your prettiest asset of your body? Nails? Smile? Hair? Think of positive thoughts. We all struggle with a poor self image. We all have something about us that is beautiful. You are beautiful just joining SP and making that first scary step. That is Bravery and Courage, step 1!!

You might ask your doctor about THE 17 DAY DIET of which was written by a doctor. Looking at things in shorter intervals is easier for me to deal with. I find that I've cut my sugar & salts without too much problem, although the first couple of days I felt restricted only because I didn't know the diet. Can eat lots of veggies & fruits I thought. Lost 7.6 #'s my 1st week.

I have HBP ,on meds that worked for a while but now don't seem to be working ,Doc. said at last visit she said The Dash way of eating would help, just can't seem to get started can't get the to that place .Thanks
