Life is a roller coaster that is sort of like the changes in seasons. If we can build new habits that give us a better feeling when we wake up...more positive and energy-filled...then we should try. There are soooo many different things to eat and to do that there has to be things we will absolutely love that we don't know about yet. I'm with you in trying to change my habits. You know what I want is to be light on my feet again. My circumstances have been that at times I did not have $$ for food...when I was just getting on my own at 17 years old, and at times when my life changed because of tragedy...so when I could buy what I wanted I discovered flavors, and my work and being a student caused me to sit too much...that is when I gained weight and got sort of rusty feeling in the joints. I hope when we see each other on our team, trying to do better, that we'll think about each other when we are tempted to be sedentary or to eat what we know is not the best for us.

I believe that I am less likely to procrastinate if I change my "wish" to "will", my "like to" to "try to", and my "have to" to "want to".

Hi Everyone...Happy New Year. Once again it's a new year and I am starting another "diet." Yea yea I know it's not a diet, but a life style change but for the sake of the moment...i'm starting a new "diet." I've lost and gained the same 50+ pounds probably my whole adult life. I honestly can not remember a time when I wasn't trying to lose weight. Even when I was at my thinnest (Optifast diet....think Oprah in the 90's..no food..just shakes) I thought i was fat. I've realized (finally) this is no way to live. I plan on trying to just cut out most sugars and eating more protein and less white, starchy carbs. As far as exercise goes....I used to love Zumba/dancing type exercises but got burnt out on them when outside drama starting sneaking into the studio i went to. I will try to commit to doing SOMETHING daily for at least 30 minutes, adding some weights in there here and there. Good luck everyone on your new journies to wellness...hope to gain some inspiration from you all.

A little progress each day adds up to big results

Hi Ladies,

I agree with the plan that we can eat anything, but just in moderation. As long as you count it, you can eat it. That is why eating out is dangerous,,,you just never know. Even if they have the calorie counts on the menu, I don't trust them. So, my plan is to fill up on veggies and lean meat, and just have a bite or 2 here and there of anything else. I also have been reading about calorie cycling, where you go really low, like 500 calories, 2 days a week. I have tried this before, and it does work, if you can stick to it. So, for now, I just want to get in the habit of tracking again, and eating as healthy as possible. I am hoping for a pound or 2 a week,,,so we'll see if I am being realistic or not. I will be 58 this month, and my goal is around 140. It would be really nice to see a big drop the first month to keep me motivated!!

Hi Deb, I agree with you about aging, that we need to eat less.

I've been there over the years, losing and gaining. That's why I decided no more diets. I'm going to eat all the foods I love, but in moderation. I'm going to not eat when I'm not hungry (I hope at least 85% of the time), and eat moderately when I do eat.

My goal is to lose just three pounds per month. I know from experience that quick weight-loss means quick gains and then some.

My long term goal is to get to 150 or 140, somewhere between there. But I'm being realistic, too. Wherever I get by eating, what I consider, as a normal person would, is where I want to be.

Welcome to SP!

Eat only when hungry.
Eat exactly what you're hungry for.
Stop eating as soon as you're satisfied (not full).
Do this consistently and you will lose weight.

Hello, my name is Deb. A few years ago I lost about 20 pounds and have now gained 25. Iíve discovered I am a stress eater. I realize I also need to have meals planned because if I donít I end up eating too many carbs.

I lost about 5 pounds two to theee weeks ago, but a stressful situation has sent me to the dark side where there are lots of carbs and chocolate!

Iím beginning to feel that as we age, we need to eat differently and less, or is it just my imagination?

I need some advice from others facing the same things I am, menopause, aging, sore joints and even changing sleep habits.

My long term goal is to lose 50 pounds, but Iím going to break it into smaller goals. Losing 50 pounds sounds almost impossible, but smaller amounts arenít as intimidating.

Iím anxious for the 6th!

Hi. I'm Donna, and I'm a compulsive overeater. This is round 2 for me on Sparkpeople. I was successful 10 years ago at losing 60 pounds. (check out NVDONNA sparkpage). My how time flies. And with it, all my good intentions and new eating habits flew right out the window. I am back to 195 pounds and pretty much hating myself for it. But, tired of kicking myself and feeling bad. It's a new year, and it's never too late to start again. Sparkpeople worked for me before, and I can do it again. My profile says I can lose 60 pounds by July 30. That would be so awesome. My anniversary is July 31, so that would be the best present ever. Looking forward to meeting you and sharing our journey and supporting each other. Let's do this,,,,,ready,,,,,GO!!
