Welcome! Yes, I'm down 50 pounds and it is thanks to keeping track of calories. I started with that first so as not to feel overwhelmed, and then when I felt I needed to bring it up a notch I started exercising for a short amount of time. I built up the exercise very slowly, adding 5 minutes a week, and it has been very doable.

There are a lot of good articles here, and very friendly people - take advantage of it! Best of luck!!

Just to clarify, do you mean new to this team? New to SparkPeople? Or both?

SparkPeople has many different plans so that's the beauty of it! Some of us in this team might be on a Diabetes or Heart Disease specific plan, or others might be using Weight Watchers. And we have some using Low Carb plans like Atkins, KETO, etc. So there is a lot of flexibility of plans!

There are a lot of SparkPeople articles under the "Success Stories" which might give you some ideas that spark your imagination and motivation!
