Patsy, you seem to have a great plan and I hope all is going well. I will soon by 70 (in Feb.) and I also want to have this be my final journey down this path. I wish us both success.

On my way to my new normal.

I have never heard of CSA except at church and the Confederate States Of America. Whatever it is, if you dietitian recommends it, good for you. 64 ounces of water is fine,, 80 made my edema worse, even on high doses of lasix.

Before coming on Spark, I weighed 320 lbs. Three things helped me: drinking water; eating protein, veggies and juicy fruits; moving at least 15 minutes a day. Also, keep a positive attitude! emoticon

Plan:
Move my body (15 mins per day, 6 days per week)
Eat my freggies (2 to 4 svgs per day)
Drink my H2O (64 oz per day)

You sound like you have some great ideas already. I find that the key to my success is in tracking the food I eat and measuring while and after cooking. I try to estimate my days food in the morning and of course can adjust as the day goes on.

I am on my way to loose a lifetime of fat I so you have lots of people with the same struggle as you.

On my way to my new normal.

Oh Sparkpeople's Search (Magnifier - which moves around on the top row, depending on if you are on your phone or app or desktop browser - it can be far right or in the left of center area, underneath the "Start - My Tracker - Community - Learn - Challenges - Video - Recipes" menu line...

I just did a search by "How to lose 100 pounds" as the SparkPeople site has quite a few articles about losing 100 pounds, or how specific individuals lost 100 pounds. I have the same struggle. I've had to cut waaaay back on the carbs like muffins and such, and go for the more complex carbohydrate veggies and more protein (veggie protein as well as lean meats) more the "low carb" style of eating.

Your locally grown CSA produce sounds like a really great deal!

And strengthens her arms.

Thanks for the hints...

We are at a B&B - but have access to a refrigerator/freezer so are taking grapes, melons, berries, cherries, bananas, apples, oranges, peaches - we will be eating muffins, coffee, tea, cereal for breakfast - lunch will be out on the beach so will be making tuna salad, egg salad, low sodium ham and turkey - natural pb, cheeses, crackers, fruit, veggies & dip - and we'll eat out every evening - I will just order broiled fish, chicken breast, shrimp cocktail, salad w/dressing on the side, we will grill natural hot dogs but I'll be grilling chix-maple-apple sausage (I love them)... I will splurge on the handmade ice cream shop (maple walnut, fresh blackberry and strawberry) - but it will be a small kid's portion in a cup. I agree if you don't have snackies in the house, none are eaten. Between my CSA with organic veggies and fruit and the amount of meat I have in my freezer, I really don't need much from markets - and when I get my CSA, I get 1/2 gallon of fresh milk. I will place one order in August before we leave for vacation - to get paper products, ingredients, cereal - by buying from jet.com I can get any veggie or fruit, anything frozen (including ice cream) and get it delivered in two days - they send frozen encased in a special wrap with dry ice and the rest is in a special box with special cold packs so that everything including my yogurts come icy cold and fresh.

Welcome. Has your doctor referred you to a diabetes educator? If not, ask for one. That will help you get started in planning your meals. If that's not an option, take a look at the Diabetes plan right here on Sparkpeople. It will help you to plan your meals and tell you how many carbs you should be eating per meal and snack, you'll be able to track your blood glucose.

When you go on vacation, try to minimize your eating out. If you're staying at a cabin or a place with a kitchen, you should be able to cook at least some of your meals.

When you do go shopping for groceries, make a list and stick with it. I've found that if I don't have junk food in my house, I don't miss it.

I'm old to SparkPeople but new to my desire to finally lose the weight I have to. I'm a 70-yr old woman who weighs (as of this morning) 290 pounds. I have been diagnosed with diabetes 2 and have been tracking my morning blood levels but no medication (as yet). I have to get my weight down, begin walking, plan better meals and eat more healthy foods.

I get a senior CSA every two weeks and its from an organic farm - I have a freezer filled to overflowing with meats, veggies and fruit. I know that I have to drink over 80 oz of water a day, I know that my knees are really bad and the edema in my legs is very bad - so bad that my feet have "muffin tops", I know I'm at that "tipping point" and am now scared. I live alone in a senior apt complex set in a beautiful setting in NY - I am on a fixed income, but comfortable, I know that I am leaving in August with my daughter and granddaughter for a vacation on an island off the coast of RI meaning more eating out, lots of attempting to walk on the beach every morning, afternoon and evening... I also know that I give in to my temptations when I go grocery shopping so I try to stay out of the markets. I get my milk, CSA delivery, fruit and veggies at my Senior pantry every 2 weeks, I get my eggs fresh from the chickens that my daughter and her husband have on their farm, some fruit from my daughter who owns a homemade jam and marmalade business.
As I read the above I realized that I could do this but realize I can't do this alone.
Thank you all for listening.
