I am going to Austin this week with my son who is moving there. I know the city is supposed to have excellent food and I'm going to do my best to stay on my low carb food plan at least as well as I can. I am doing a little better at least I'm not bingeing but I'm not exactly back on track either. My son and my husband eat whatever they want which includes a lot of things I shouldn't eat and I find myself tempted with the goodies quite often. I also go out to eat quite a bit and that is very difficult for me to maintain good choices

I need to get there, too. All this traveling back and forth between Florida and Nebraska is killing me.

I am trying trying trying to get back to a motivated place. All the comments are helpful, both from those moving along well and losing weight and from others such as myself having problems.

Good luck! My husband was never any help because he loves to eat and eat! His mother died young like yours but that didn't mean anything needed to change until the doctor finally agreed with me that he had diabetes. He does better now but it has taken a toll on me. When I did lose I was following my trainer's program so had to fix 2 meals every night.

I too am 64, just praying I will make it to 65, since I lost my Mom when she was 65, I used to be a spark member years ago but life got in my way. Soo I am trying again. I have problems with portion control and being active. I belong to a group called TOPS and have learned a lot ,but do not know how to turn my learning into everyday eating. I know I eat to many carbs and not enough water. but am working on both. My husband is very thin and doesn't help me much. So I will do my best to be on here everyday to learn even more about this journey.

Welcome back. Each tie we try again we learn more about what works and doesn't work. Keep a log. I found that writing in longhand rather than on the computer works best for me.

Welcome back. I know how you feel because I haven't lost anything in all my time here but I keep checking in daily to keep up worth my friends' notices-it keeps me at least thinking about the program and trying to work it right. Maybe we can both find success here!

Trying again...third time is the charm, right? Distractions (life) keep getting in the way (excuses), but the time has come to prioritize myself. Need to set a plan, using baby steps, and stick to it to regain my health and mobility. Hoping to get some ideas and support here.

Tired of the weight, the ups and downs, the shame of being overweight in a slim and physically fit family. Ready to move forward. Need to be accountable so plan to post whether I am sticking to my food plan or not.

I am also new. My sons and I have all had the same weight issues for years and they are really working on theirs and I want to also set a good example, after the fact. The younger son (25) still lives at home and so I think I will first work on changing up how and what I cook, but my husband, who is mostly fit, does not want to change his foods, so that will be a challenge. I look forward to reading about others challenges and victories, for it is motivating to see others in the same situations being able to overcome them.

Need to get a little tracker... going to find a tracker to add to my posts... see you all soon.

Hi everyone, I have been on Sparkpeople for a few years, but really slacked off beginning in Oct. 2015, My husband started a very rapid downward slide with his health and with his Alzheimer's disease. By December he was doing so poorly I had to have him admitted to a nursing home the week before Christmas. The only blessing was that his mind was so far gone, I don't think he even realized where he was. He died on Jan. 31, 2016. My mother who lives with me had a heart attack the day before he died. I had to retire in April 2016 to care for my mom full time because she couldn't afford to pay for the caregivers while I worked full time. As you can imagine, with all that stress my diet and exercise have hardly been a priority. But I am ready now to start again. I put on about 18 pounds and am so disgusted with letting myself go like I did. I am just grateful I didn't have any major illnesses, and although I have been depressed, I chose not to use meds to make it go away. It seems to me that I had plenty to be sad about, and I know it is situational in nature. It is getting better as time goes by. Now I want to focus on caring for myself. I want to lose about 70-80 pounds yet.. I want to be healthy, and keep my diabetes and cholesterol under control, because I am only 62, and my family is very long lived. I want to be in the best shape I can be when I hit my ninties. lol

Coolbreeze - You are so right - focusing on one thing at a time can be an important key to success. I returned in January 2016 at the age of 62 and my primary focus initially was to develop a consistent exercise "habit" as that had always been my downfall on other attempts. My eating would be okay and within range but the weight would come off so slowly because of my lack of consistent exercise that I'd get discouraged and leave the site. I joined one of the SP exercise challenges and that got me into strength training - something that I might not have done much if left to my own devices! That's something that you might want to consider. I also got involved in 2-3 forums and found the support and regular chats kept me wanting to move forward. More than a year later I'm down more than 50 pounds and that initial goal is getting closer. The losses have slowed to a crawl but exercise is a regular part of my day 6 days a week and I know I'll eventually get to my targeted weight - maybe not as soon as I'd originally hoped but it really is a journey.
Good luck to you on your journey. emoticon emoticon

CoolBreeze Welcome. I am back again too. Turned 62 and decided I had to lose the weight so no one has to take care of me as I age. I don't want to be a burden. I want to lose 50 pounds but more importantly I want to eat healthy without thinking about it. If it becomes a habit to pick the healthy choices then I will be pleased with that accomplishment.
