Thank yo all for the warm welcome. I am looking forward to our time together at SP. I came to Spark People kind of backwards. I bought a pedometer and decided if I was walking, I might as well keep track of it, and then if I track my exercise, I should track my food intake also. That an eye opener. I will never go to Olive Gardens again unless I can get a grip on myself. I am down 25 pounds. How did you all get your weight loss track to show up in your welcome to me?

Hi, my name is Mary. I am married and I have three married daughters and a wonderful man as a husband. I need to lose about 80 lbs and I need and want to for myself and for health. My husband never complains but my health and his health are important issues especially as we get older. I hope to make many friends so we can support, listen, and help each other. emoticon emoticon Mary

It seems to help me to break it up in discreet time periods, rather than think of it as a forever thing. Plus, after the week is over, I can see what I need to work on more and fine tune my new week-long challenge.

I hear you - I did that, too. Lost a lot of weight when I was 40, but now I'm 62 and have been near peak weight for over 10 years. Right now I am giving myself small one-week long weight challenges, so I can do this a bit at a time. This week I am writing down every single thing I eat, I am trying to eat smaller portions, trying to have more protein and veggies, and I am weighing myself every day. I hope by this coming Monday morning to see a difference when I weigh myself. So far I am sticking to my plan, and I feel good because I am not burdened by overeating.

I lost a lot of weight years ago but it's so hard now that I'm older.

You can do this. Spark is a wonderful site - education, inspiration and support. We all root for and learn from each other here. It's all about a healthy lifestyle that works for the individual - no magic bullets, no perfect diet or exercise. I started by making small changes; so there was not a big weight loss at first, but once I got into the swing of things, the weight came off. I have strayed away over the years but always come back. It's that good. Best wishes on your path.
