I started with a goal last January of just getting in at least 10 minutes of exercise a day because not exercising was my downfall and the reason why I never seemed to lose much even if I was being pretty mindful of what I ate and tracking it. Eventually I'd just quit. Over time my exercise minutes increased of course. My goal of losing close to 70 pounds seemed daunting to me too, but I'm happy to say that regular exercise and being involved in challenges and teams here on Spark have helped me to lose just over 50 pounds since the beginning of the year. emoticon

My advice is to find a challenge that you can do - there are lots here on SP (I started with a daily exercise challenge) - and get involved in a couple of teams where you'll find the kind of support that you need.

Good luck to you on your journey.

Well done for reaching out! You're definitely not alone!

I suggest to check out the book 'The Beck Diet Solution' or 'The Beck Diet for Life'. There's a good team here at Sparkpeople for Beck. I found her books very helpful.

Hello, Suzy! We are all working to lose weight here, I have a lot to lose, too. I just read an interesting article from a nutitionist today, answering the question whether it is better to eat about 5 or 6 small meals a day, or to wait and eat only when you are hungry. And she said to wait and eat only when you are hungry. This is something I have been trying to do the last month, and it seems to be helping. I will plan out my meals for the day, but only prepare them once I'm starting to get hungry. It is helping me from getting too full, and it also helps with portioning, since I only eat a moderate amount, and wait until 20 minutes to see if I'm satisfied. I'm also getting more fresh fruit and veggies into my diet, and that seems to help, also.

A lot of us are in the same boat but we will get there one step at a time. Getting healthy is the goal so don't worry about weight as much as getting the right nutrition and exercise. If you get the nutrition and exercise right then the weight will just naturally go down. Take care of yourself and take it slow and steady.

I apologize if this topic has come up before, but I'm new to the group and I'm hoping I can get some encouragement and help. I've got 90+ pounds to lose and I'm scared that I have to do it, and scared that I may not be able to do it. I've got some specific goals in mind, but writing things down is easier for me to do than actually following through. I hope that I'll be able to get motivated from others in the group that are successful. Thanks in advance for throwing me a line! emoticon
