I just joined Sparkpeople. I started working out at out local gym about 6 months ago at about 219 lbs. I signed up for 3 day a week, 30 min per day personal training sessions. At first just getting up out of bed to get to the gym for 6:30 was a victory. My trainer said not to worry about anything else and NOT to weigh myself. Got frustrated along the way, especially when we took measurements and weighed in each 8 weeks. It was taking so long. BUT she told me that after being a couch potato for 3 -4 solid years, it was very unrealistic to expect those rapid results we want. She said, "Let your body wake up first." And she was right. I'm stronger now than I have ever been and now started focusing on getting my cardio health back. I"m up to 45 minutes of hard work total and 15 minutes on the elliptical--I coudn't do 30 seconds when I started. So now, my next goal is to add in a focus on my eating. I have been eating better but I know I'm still eating too much. So I've joined Sparkpeople in order to start monitoring my calories and to get the support I desperately need to now try to drop some pounds. I've only lost 10 lbs since end of April but my trainer says I lost more but gained some back in muscle. Looking foward to being part of this group. I sometimes think its too late to get my body back in shape so I'm looking to my fellow 50+ people to show me how its done!!!! emoticon
