CS - WELCOME AND I AM NEW HERE TOO. I DID THE SAME THING WHEN I WENT THROUGH MENOPAUSE - GAINED ABOUT 30 POUNDS. THEN MADE THE MISTAKE OF QUITTING SMOKING AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME AND GAINED EVEN MORE - ABOUT 20 MORE. AT THAT POINT I THINK I WAS JUST LOOKING FOR EXCUSES. THIS IS A GOOD TEAM THAT SEEMS TO BE FULL OF REALLY NICE PEOPLE. I STILL HAVE 62 POUNDS TO LOSE BUT DON'T THINK I'LL MAKE IT BEFORE I DIE. STILL I WILL KEEP TRYING SINCE I HAVE LOST WELL OVER 100 POUNDS ON SPARK ALREADY BUT RECENTLY CHANGED MY USERNAME.

Hi CSCACCIA99,

You've already been given some great guidance! I will second everything MIMAWELIZABETH said. Remember that you didn't get here overnight, so be reasonable about your time frame for getting healthy. As far as finding the time and energy to exercise, same thing. Don't expect to carve out 30 minute chunks of time from 5 days a week when you can specifically exercise. Start with little bitty baby steps like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or parking a little farther away and having to walk a bit to go into the grocery store or to go to work. Also, when you're ready to dedicate some blocks of time to exercise, choose exercise that you like. My role model sister, who has maintained her goal weight for a long time now, found it much easier to find time to take ballroom dance lessons than to go jogging or to the gym.

Welcome to the team and congratulations on choosing to join SparkPeople!

Denise

Small changes, one at a time, stack 'em up!

Welcome to the Team. So happy to have you aboard. You are getting great suggestions from other members which is one of the great benefits of being a SparkPeople member. I love the Nutrition and Fitness trackers. Using them has made such a difference for me. Give them a try.

Hi. emoticon I know it was mentioned to you to join the 30 day Small Changes Challenge. That is a great one with a daily "little" challenge. There are also other challenges to help get in the right mind frame; usually 21 or 30 day. I just restarted Sparks in September & doing 1 challenge at a time that interest me. It does give you a feeling of accomplishment when able to complete it each day. I read the articles along with all motivation videos & quotes. Take it a day at a time. Keeping a notebook of what I eat as well as "tracking" it under nutrition really helps me be accountable. There are some good videos on here with Coach Nichole for short "chair" exercises. I started with 5 minutes of fitness & increased each week. If I do over 20, I'm happy. You can do this! emoticon emoticon

Welcome to SparkPeople and the team. I would recommend the challenge "The 30 Day Small Changes Challenge" as a good way to start and to help you build new habits. This is not a diet, but a life style which gives us all a much better chance for losing the weight and keeping it off once it's gone. Good luck in your quest for a new you!

I am going to be 50 in a month. I joined Spark to try to lose weight and get fit because it seems like I have a number of factors working against me. I got sober in 2009 and began gaining weight due to a couple of medications I was taking at the time, methadone and seroquel. Now 6 1/2 years later, I am in menopause and my weight went up even more! I look forward to learning how other members are losing weight and finding the energy and time to exercise?
