It's a mind game if you are not really paying attention or focused. I think we have to be in the present and aware to change anything in life we want to be different. Not mental, physical!!

GET PHYSICAL ... wake up stretch and do 50 sit-ups in bed before you get up. We are supposed to brush our teeth for 2 minutes, 120 seconds. Do 2 minutes (morning and evening) of knee bends or shift your weight from one foot to the other lifting the non-weight baring foot or test (improve) your balance by standing on one foot then the other while you count to 120.

Be aware of your posture. Get up when a commercial comes on and do something physical. Put a small bowl beside your favorite chair with a number of small objects in it dried beans, paperclips something. When the commercial comes on take an object as you get up to do something physical and put it in another dish. How many little objects (minutes exercise) have you moved at the end of the day?

Get hand weights, stretchy bands or something around the house to use for weights. Make a daily walk or some other activity a habit. Mark off on a calendar or journal what you're doing and how you are increasing your activity. 20 sit-ups to 30 to 40 to 50 ... 15 minute walk to 25 to 45 you get the idea.

GET PHYSICAL ... fill out Track My Food on SparkPeople in the evening for the next day or in the morning for the day and print it out. Look at that paper with tunnel vision and stick to it. And changing your life and getting healthy is worth using up an ink cartridge and 365 sheets of paper so do print it out.

GET PHYSICAL ... When you set the table or TV tray with dishes and silverware put a measuring cup in the center of your plate. You also need a scale in the kitchen to weigh some foods. Think ... plan ... how can you change your food to make it lower in calories than the rest of the family? Depending on the food ... dressing, sauces on the side. No breading and pat oil off sautéed meat. Bulk up your serving by putting it on top of 1-2 cups of shredded lettuce. Add 1-2 cups of finely sliced cabbage to other dishes. 20 seconds in the microwave will wilt finely sliced cabbage and make seem less "raw".

Take it from here ... what can you add?

Hi. Welcome to the team. I understand where you are coming from. I would lose weight only to gain it all back and then some. I hit the point of I am going to do this when I went shopping with my 85 year old Mom and she had more energy and could move better than I could. I was 56 at the time. I started losing weight for the trip we were taking, it was a tour trip and involved a lot of walking. I never turned back. I joined SP and with all the great tools and wonderful friends and community I have lost 114 pounds and am ready for maintenance.

Use the community, post everyday, and read articles. This keeps up motivation, at least it did for me. here is a link to a great article. It is advice that everyone gave to newbies now it is in an article. It is todays feature. Here is the link. www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat

Throwing food away sounds horrible but some 40 years ago my sister told me something that still sticks with me - she said it is HER food and it is much more attractive in the GARBAGE than on her body. Seriously, she is the same sister who started a campaign in our family when my aunt stocked her cupboards with WAY TOO MUCH of all of everyone's favorite fattening foods - the campaign was she told everyone they were responsible for a certain amount of food from each category and it did not matter whether it was eaten, put in the garbage or fed to the dogs - just so long as it was gotten out of the house. She is crazy but has very little weight problem because GUILT and gluttony are NOT going to control her life.

I just threw all the cookies and candy over the back fence about 30 minutes ago.

I've been out of control (in a really big way) for a couple weeks now. I have no idea how many pounds I've gained and I don't want to know. I will start back on my plan today and get weighed in couple weeks.

Weight loss is accomplished with the mind.

A person who wants something WILL find a way....a person who doesn't will find an excuse.

Which do you prefer?
The pain of self discipline?....or...the pain of self regret?

I do the same thing but I've decided to stop making excuses for myself likke I can start after the bag of cookies is gone because after the food is gone I just feel bad and then I feel like I can't lose weight but that's just a mind game too if I tell myself I will just have to start in the morning I'm just setting myself back I think we should try a new mind game and see how many times we won't give in because it makes us feel more powerful to be in control not let some craving win.

You will find many of us have let those Monday restarts pass us by too. A major baby step is to simply agree to START immediately to make healthier choices from NOW - whether NOW is the minute after scarfing down a box of cookies, eating a HUGE dinner with dessert, a binge, or simply another HEALTHY day. Just recognize that you can make better choices at any time and that the past is over and done with - just do your best.

I think a lot of it is beyond wanting...it is feeling certain that we are worthy of the comfort, good health , energy, etc that losing the weight would bring us. We deserve the time spent exercising and eating correctly. Sometimes I feel that I am not important enough to take a stand for what I need to be healthy. In reality, I would not be the only one to benefit...my family and friends would benefit by my example.

This losing weight is a "mind game" - how do I get my mind, my wanting, my cravings to stop giving me this attitude of not wanting to take better care of myself? I'm tired of how I look and feel about my body. I want to be healthy but I'm fighting this mind of mine that I will start doing better on Monday.....LOTS OF MONDAY'S HAVE BLOWN BY...
