I should have added get a pedometer. Omron makes a good one and you might find it with the blood pressure gadgets at your Walgreen's, etc. or on line from the company.
The one Walmart sells is not good ... to put it nicely.

I just learned a little over 2000 steps is a mile for the average stride that most people have. I always thought it was 5000.

You have received some great advice. I found, surprisingly, that walking 20-30 minutes even to a walking video, really helps me have energy so I can do more in the evening and am not as tired. I am on my feet all day and walk and stand a lot.. It is hard, but walking really does help.

There are all kinds of ways to add healthy eating and also to fit in a little extra exercise. You have some great tips already. If you need more specifics, let us know. What do you LIKE to eat? How many other people do you cook or eat with? What are your special dietary needs? All of these questions will help you figure out what needs to be in YOUR lifestyle PLAN.

Do 50 situps before you get out of bed in the morning.

Do knee bends while you brush your teeth. Think about how you can add motion to activities.

Have weights and stretchie bands handy.

If you hold a weight, bend forward, with your knees bent slightly (weight near the floor)... then stand up straight lifting the weight your holding over your head as high as you can. You have just used almost every muscle in your body. Do as many as you can. You will make changes if you do just 10 minutes of serious exercise each morning. A walk after dinner is good too and on the week ends of course.

Keep a daily journal ... look for exercise videos on SP.

Freezing meals is such a good idea. There are days when you just don't feel like cooking and if you have something at home there's no excuse to pick up fast food.

Plan ahead. You may want to cook ahead on your days off and freeze some meals for your busy week. I have also found some quick and easy recipes in the Spark Cookbook. Good luck, I am a retired physician and understand the stress you are under.

Use your day off to 'make -a - ahead ' meals for the next week. I read an article about meals in a jar from Clean Eating Magazine. Perhaps something like that could help.

I'm trying to figure the best way for me to eat well and exercise. I work in a pharmacy, so I'm on my feet at least 8 hours a day. My schedule can be 8-5, 9-6, 11-8. I also live about 45min from work. HELP!!! I need a good eating plan and exercise plan. Not just to lose weight and get healthy again, but to have the energy to work these hours and still do what I need to at home. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Missy
