Hi and welcome--I'm new here too and it's taken me a couple of weeks to figure the web site out. It's amazing how many teams there are. I keep a food journal off line. It's a book I found in the bookstore. But you cound use any kind of notebook. I tend to eat similar meals from day to day so all I have to do is look back at previous pages for the calorie info. Basically then I only have to look it up once. I also work in a hospital--in the lab. I'm also an RN. I'm into my third week and so far I've lost 10 lbs. Keeping the journal is helping me to be more accountable regarding what I'm eating and portion sizes. I'm not using any diet--just a calorie range of 1500-1800 and trying to make healthier choices and eating more frequently. I work evenings and was never a big breakfast person....so that is the hardest. That and not pigging out on junk in front of the TV after work!!! LOL!! BABY STEPS......Lynne

Welcome. I do make "food groups" so I don't have to enter the nutritional information more than once. I use the labels on the packages or sometimes Spark has them. I have a "turkey sandwich" and "chicken salad" and "turkey burgers" so I don't have to find the information on them. Some of the frozen dinners are already online so I don't have to do them. It really works.

emoticon and emoticon from MN. I use the food tracker daily. You can use the menu they have for you or clear that and do your own. I do my own and started by looking up food on the food search. Once I found what I wanted, I added it to my favorites by checkiing the box under the meals drop down. Once you get that up and going, set up food groups and it is a one click and it is all posted. I know it is confusing to begin with but you'll figure it out soon. Keep posting and asking questions as well as using the help button.

Best wishes on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.

Eileen

I have found many other foods in the 10,000+ food data base where Sparkpeople have entered foods. Be sure you are looking in "Foods entered by members". After that you do have to enter yourself the foods you eat. It took some time but I did get them entered. It is not that time consuming just to enter one at a time. Healthy foods is a good first goal. Wish you the best of luck. emoticon emoticon Debbie

emoticon this is an awesome and supportive team and an amazing site. There is no easy way to lose weight. This is a life style change. If you aren't willing to change your life style, your way at looking at food and exercise, this program will not work for you any better than any other program.

I find the nutrition and fitness trackers to be invaluable. Try to take one day at a time and remember we are all in this together.

emoticon Welcome to the beginning of your healthy lifestyle. Diets don't work, but making small changes to the way you live does work.
emoticon Most of us are here for the long haul, so feel free to get to know us. Questions ... wonderful, that's the only way we learn. Aha moments ... share them. We love them and they even open some doors for us to get further in our journey. Rants and pity parties ... we all have those days. I will warn you though … this is a pretty upbeat bunch of people you'll be talking to.
emoticon Check out a few Spark Pages. You'll soon find some like minded people to hook up with as friends. Join a few teams. I find that the challenge team I am on motivates me when I don’t feel like doing what I know I should. It's also small enough that I can get to know some people going for the same goal.
emoticon Don’t let all the information that is here scare you. Just try to make two or three small changes, and when you've got them mastered, and then move on. Before you know it, you'll be amazed at how long you been here and how far you have come!
emoticon Statistics say that those who interact with others do better with their weight loss. Don't be afraid to reach out. We all know where you are coming from and how hard this is sometimes.
emoticon
It will get easier as you enter food into the Nutrition Tracker. Things I use all the time I have added to my favorites. I also have some meals that repeat that I have put into groups, so with a couple of clicks I have everything for that meal listed.

I am new to the sight today. The only successful weight loss plan I have participated in is the South Beach diet. I initially lost 35 pounds, quite effortlessly, but have slowly regained it all plus 10 pounds. I am incredibly frustrated and at my all time heaviest. I don't feel well, and it is related to my weight gain, poor sleep, hi stress environment. Alot of people in our OR have begun weight watchers, which I have tried with no success. I am desparetly ready to change. My only frustration today is logging food and not being able to find the nutritional info for the food I have entered. I could enter it off the things that I had package info on. I wonder if there is an easy way to do this?
