Hi Mary,

Glad you're part of our team (a very supportive and encouraging group) and congrats on your success with smoking. If you can do that, you can do this for sure! One day and pound at a time and lifestyle changes that truly make a difference! We don't diet here because we know that doesn't work so best of luck!

Good morning Mary, and welcome to the DWD Team! Glad you chose to join us on this journey to a healthier lifestyle. We're all in this together so feel comfortable posting and expect support, understanding and encouragement in response.

This is not a diet. There are no forbidden foods. It is all about moderation and portion control. There is a value to deciding to keep certain foods out of the house if you tend to have no control where they are concerned.

Use the tool bar above to discover excellent articles, tools and videos. The Success Stories are about ordinary people performing extraordinary feats and are full of motivation and inspiration.

From my own experience, the Nutrition Tracker is the best tool on the site as it provides a clear picture of where your calories and other nutrients come from. It also has recommended ranges to support a healthy weight loss plan. By drinking 8 cups of water daily and exercising even 10 minutes at a time you have the 3 pronged appoach to the SP weight management.

Set small doable goals and take tiny steps to achieve them. Biting off too big a bite can choke the enthusiasm and commitment you are starting with. Be sure to plan a reward for each goal you meet. That's part of the incentive plan.

Look forward to getting to know you better. Come back soon and post often. We're here for you.

Welcome and first of all, congratulations on kicking the smoking habit. NOW your next journey is a healthy lifestyle. You can do it! Take it a day-at-a-time, small steps. Replace one bad habit with a good one, master that, then move on. Remember it takes awhile for something to become a habit.

And have fun with that lucky little kitten!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

emoticon Welcome to the beginning of your healthy lifestyle. Diets don't work, but making small changes to the way you live does work.
emoticon Most of us are here for the long haul, so feel free to get to know us. Questions ... wonderful, that's the only way we learn. Aha moments ... share them. We love them and they even open some doors for us to get further in our journey. Rants and pity parties ... well, I guess. I will warn you though … this is a pretty upbeat bunch of people you'll be talking to.
emoticon Check out a few Spark Pages. You'll soon find some like minded people to hook up with as friends. Join a few teams. I find that the challenge team motivates me when I don’t feel like doing what I know I should.
emoticon Don’t let all the information that is here overwhelm you. Just try to make two or three small changes, and when you've got them mastered, and then move on. Before you know it, you'll be amazed at how long you been here and how far you have come!
emoticon
Statistics say that those who interact with others do better with their weight loss. Don't be afraid to reach out. We all know where you are coming from and how hard this is.

emoticon to the Team. Spark People is a really good place to be and learn from articles to post of team members and yourself. Keep logging in, tracking nutrition and fitness, setting goals and reading.

Look at this as a life style change, and what you will learn will help you live a healthier life and enjoy activities.

Good Luck. God Bless.

Hello everyone. My name is Mary and I am new to the program. I am looking for help as most everyone here I suppose. I stopped smoking just over a year ago and promptly gained a lot of weight. Now that I have succeeded in being a non-smoker, I need to succeed in being non-obese.

I am a high school teacher. I live in central West Virginia. I love to garden, hike and read. And yesterday I picked up a little kitten from the side of a 4-lane highway and am now trying to type with her chasing my fingers. :)

I look forward to meeting others who have the same goal.
