Hi and Welcome! I don't know much about diabetes and the restriction so I would definitely check with your doctor. I would think that lots of water, healthy foods and exercise would help and use this site for its wealth of information. The nutrition tracker even keeps track of your sugar for you! Best of luck in achieving your goals.

emoticon Welcome to the beginning of your healthy lifestyle. Diets don't work, but making small changes to the way you live does work.
emoticon Most of us are here for the long haul, so feel free to get to know us. Questions ... wonderful, that's the only way we learn. Aha moments ... share them. We love them and they even open some doors for us to get further in our journey. Rants and pity parties ... well, I guess. I will warn you though … this is a pretty upbeat bunch of people you'll be talking to.

emoticon Don’t let all the information that is here overwhelm you. Just try to make two or three small changes, and when you've got them mastered, and then move on. Before you know it, you'll be amazed at how long you been here and how far you have come!

emoticon to the Team. Spark People is a really good place to be and learn from articles to post of team members and yourself. Keep logging in, tracking nutrition and fitness, setting goals and reading. The Nutrition tracker has just been updated to accommodate people with Diabetics.

Look at this as a life style change, and what you will learn will help you live a healthier life and enjoy activities.

Good Luck. God Bless.

Hi and welcome to the team.

Hi. Your story sounds just like mine. An A1C of 12.6, 50 pounds overweight most of it around my midsection and it has crept up over the last 3 years or so. At my physical in March my blood glucose was 399. I was having 400's regularly. I finally have it under control with Metformin and Lantus insulin at night. I have been able to get through the day now without a nap which is amazing for me. I was always so tired. I am really hoping to make a change in my weight and eating habits in the near future. I appreciate all the help I have found on Spark People. emoticon

Welcome. What diet has been indicted for you (i.e. how many calories?) Have ou consulted a dietitian? In this group you can use the nutrition tracker. There is a page to track your water intake AND I just noticed yesterday there is a place to track your blood glucose!!! That is fabulously helpful.

Could you be insulin resistant? I was diagnosed in January with insulin resistant type 2 Diabetes. My blood sugar was horrible . . . 330 and my A1C was 12! I was horrified. Really the only symptom I had was a progressive weight gain over the past 5 yrs. especially, with most of the weight being in my abdomen. Well, I did not know that is a hallmark symptom of type 2 insulin resistant diabetes. And I was horribly tired 24/7. Let me tell you, I had a brain fog that just didn't quit, too.

The day I was diagnowsed I was started on ActoplusMetformin and I can't say enough about how it helped me.

Do you have a set routine for testing your sugar (I would imagine so since you say your diabetes is in good shape). That (the testing) really helps me to determine what my body needs to eat right.

Well, I have probably asked questions you've dealt with LONG ago, but wanted to be sure.

Keep reading, keep posting and you'll have success.

Oh, check out the groups. There are several groups here on Spark People geared towards diabetes.

Love is the root of all things good in life.
