emoticon Welcome to the beginning of your healthy lifestyle. Diets don't work, but making small changes to the way you live does work.
emoticon Most of us are here for the long haul, so feel free to get to know us. Questions ... wonderful, that's the only way we learn. Aha moments ... share them. We love them and they even open some doors for us to get further in our journey. Rants and pity parties ... well, I guess. I will warn you though … this is a pretty upbeat bunch of people you'll be talking to.
emoticon Check out a few Spark Pages. You'll soon find some like minded people to hook up with as friends. Join a few teams. I find that the challenge team motivates me when I don’t feel like doing what I know I should.
emoticon Don’t let all the information that is here overwhelm you. Just try to make two or three small changes, and when you've got them mastered, and then move on. Before you know it, you'll be amazed at how long you been here and how far you have come!

Welcome to the team Debbie!!! I too have arthritis in my lower back and both knees and find difficulty some times doing my exercises. I have been trying to walk everyday but last night that wasn't even an options. I really enjoy SP and it has really helped me with making a big move toward my goal of a healthy lifestyle. You can do it!!!!! The people here are awesome and will be able to give you much support and encouragement.

Hi and welcome emoticon . I am 67 also and have a "touch" of arthritis. My problem is high blood pressure, so I have to watch my sodium. This site is good for whatever "ails" you & the folks are great!

Hi Debbie! I'm 67 and know aging and healthy lifestyles aren't for 'sissies'! Welcome to the Team! You found the right place at the right time. We are a caring and compassionate group dedicated to giving and getting support and encouragement. We're all in this together so feel comfy posting whenever you can.

I use the Nutrition Tracker and it provides me with a much needed tool to identify where my calories and carbs and other nutrients are coming from daily. It has recommended ranges that fully support a healthy weight loss plan.

Add exercise - even if its only 15 minutes - and drinking 8 cups of water daily and you have the basics of the SP healthy lifestyle.

Take it slow and add a single doable goal until you have established a good habit and then move on to the next thing. Slow and steady wins the race. emoticon

Come back soon and post often. We're here for you. Let us know how you are doing and what you need to make the road less bumpy.

I understand completely. I am 70 and touched every diet in existence! I have arthritis so I get up at 4:30 to take tylenol (can't take anything stronger) an hour before I walk!!. I am now up to 2 miles a day in 50 min.and come home and get going. There is pain but I would have it without exercise!! Good luck.

Check out the Walking Away the Pounds group --- It is a super group. They are based on Leslie Sansone's Walk away the pounds videos/dvds. I think you will find that you may be able to start with something like that - and you can be at home..... which is great!

I have problems with my lower back and feet and love her stuff!

You may post there and find people in a similar situation as you! OH My goodness - I forgot to say emoticon and I am glad you joined us, we are all in this together and know that with help, support and the tools here

I have arthritis in my feet, hips, back. I'm walking two blocks everyday not, and I use a stationary bike to work on the cardio, since it's easy on my joints. Just don't overdo whatever physical activity you do, so you don't suffer later. Start off slow and easy, and it will work for you.
I had a lot of pain Saturday, had to keep the heating pad on my back, etc. So I didn't do anything physical except walking the dogs two blocks at the end of the day. If my feet are in a lot of pain, then I opt for the stationary bike. Just have to adapt each day as necessary.
One more: I put on some music with a good beat and cleaned the house yesterday. Made cleaning more fun, and pumped up my heart a little bit too at the same time! Dancing and cleaning!

Hi, this is my first post. I am 57 and have been on a diet all my life, and I have gained 80 lbs in the last 30 years. Now, that's progress! At this stage of my life my health is affected by my weight. And it is so much more difficult to lose weight. I am not sure what to eat to lose weight, I have trouble with exercise because of arthritis, the worst in my hands. I am very thankful that I found this site. I have found useful information and tips, and am finally encouraged to make the lifestyle changes necessary to improve my health. Getting older is not for sissies! Wow! there's even a spell check for posting!
