I a big baby and do not care for the idea of surgery at all. I have talked to a few people that have had stomach surgeries for weight and most say that the real recovery is to keep to the new diet. I figure by the time I gradually make it a habit I will be ahead of the game instead of having recovery & eating issues to deal with at same time.

Hi and welcome to the team.

Dorothy

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Welcome. I too have thyroid problems and had a devil of a time losing weight. OMG I kept losing the same 5 lbs. over and over and over again only to gain 'em right back. Of course, all my thyroid #'s were "stable" so the dose of the med didn't change.

I had my annual physical in January and the Dr. diagnosed me with type 2 insulin resistant diabetes, started me on my meds AND I got "religion" about diet and exercise. Between the information I've gained from this group, really sticking to a healthy diet and being faithful to exercising, I have lost almost 40 lbs. (haven't changed my weight ticker yet, but will when I weigh in on Monday.) Anyway, the key was being on the right meds for my diabetes so my body could metabolize food properly!

Have you had your sugar checked? Not knowing if your thyroid problems are autoimmune (I have autoimmune Hashimotos -- hypothyroid) I will say that it is not uncommon for that to be linked with type 2 insulin resistant diabetes.

Good luck!

Love is the root of all things good in life.

Welcome. Lap band surgery and gastric bypass only work when you change eating behavior. You an change the behavior anyway.

You can do this.

emoticon to the Team. Spark People is a really good place to be and learn from articles to post of team members and yourself. Keep logging in, tracking nutrition and fitness, setting goals and reading.

Look at this as a life style change, and what you will learn will help you live a healthier life and enjoy activities. I am on the Thyroid Community team which addresses Thyroid issues and there is a lot of information that I have learned about this because I have struggled to lose 6.6 pounds in 90 days. What I will tell you is that I have learned that certain foods are not good for a person who is hypothyroid such as broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, etc. Also I have started with Coconut Oil (Dietary Source) that is Extra Virgin to use because that is said to help with weight loss. Please take a look into the website because there is so much out there that I have not heard about and still asking questions.

Good Luck. God Bless.
