I didn't start losing my weight until after I was 40.
Lost almost 80 pounds, then gave up smoking last year and regained 28, so now working on that again.

I actually think my metabolism got screwed up when I stopped smoking! Seems harder now to lose what I regained.

I'll be 47 in July, so no I don't think it's harder when you get to 40.

I think it has to do with responsibilities and the lifestyles we tend to be living when we get forty and older and finding the time to make health and fitness a priority for ourselves.

Hi,

I also have a large family (6 children) and I would say it is definitely harder to lose, or at least harder to get the time to exercise which seems to be as important as counting calories (not too fun).

Do you homeschool as well? If so, perhaps we can share ideas that work.

I would venture a guess that it has to do with our metabolism possibly slowing down at 40. I don't know if this is true for everyone however.

I don't know if it's really harder or not. I lost more weight after 40 than I ever did before, but then I stopped having children at age 34, and it took me several more years to get motivated to take care of myself.

Exercise is the key for me. I NEED to move EVERY day...if I slack off, the weight comes back.

Nice to meet you!

The problem for me does not seem to be the losing the weight, but the ability to KEEP it off. I have cravings I never had: chocolate, which I would only eat at Christmas; salty foods; and spices. And things that I used to eat to my heart's content now make me queasey half the time. Now how much of this is medical and how much is age is your guess.

Just as has happened this week, when I resume my diet I lose the weight. But we have to exhert ourselves as much as we used to - and in our mid to late 40s we begin to be more sedate in our lifestyles, and that encourages us to gain.

If you can continue to exercise, then you can beat it. I'm just having trouble with it. emoticon Oh, and I'm 48....

Hello my name is Vicki and I am 44years old. I have 7 children and ready to lose the baby fat. Is it true that it is harder to lose the weight after 40?
