Welcome back!

How does one become a butterfly? You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.

You can still limit your calories but maybe make more of them protein. Sort of like a low-carb diet but maybe not quite that restricted. Protein is the building block of your cells and tissues so that would help recover quite a bit.

I agree. I'm sure you are going to have follow-ups on a regular basis, but you should be able to just call on a question like this in between. While losing weight is very good for your healthy, following restrictions to help you heal is more important!

This is one I would be asking your doctor. In theory, your body needs more energy to heal itself. You are also restricted as to exercise due to recovery from surgery. I would ask your doctor and see what they have to say.

What are you going to do today to reach your goals of tomorrow?

It's supposed to be hard. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard is what makes it GREAT

I have been a part of SparkPeople for awhile, but have had lapses in my participation. I reset up my nutrition goals and am fully committed this go round. However, my family is on my case. They say because I'm recovering from surgery I need more calories than I'm taking in (usually 1400-1600). Do you think this is true? I had thoracic surgery (open heart) to remove a benign tumor (cycstic teratome) on February 17th. I have some complications from my incision so I still am out of work and have a lot of restrictions. Thank you for your responses.
