I am a 28 year old recent college graduate starting off (again...) in a new town, in a new job, and in a completely new environment. I have always been overweight, but when I was younger everyone always told me "You're not fat! You're muscular!". I played sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball, powder puff football) but didn't eat very healthily.

Now, I weigh 70 pounds more than I did in high school and my boyfriend of 7 years recently told me that one of the reasons there has been a sharp decline in our intimacy is because I've gained so much weight. Spare me the "leave him, if he can't accept you for who you are you don't need him" lectures. He's right, and he's often told me he just wants to see me be healthy and have higher self esteem.

The place I moved to is in the lower-income side of town and a very urban area. I have a very high energy German Shepherd who loves to play and I used to go jogging with. Recently, I've been struggling with depression and can't bring myself to take her out like I used to. The depression is subsiding (due in great part to my recent acquisition of a new job) and I am more determined than ever to get in shape again.

I also used to kickbox with my boyfriend as my mentor/instructor and hope to get back into that. I greatly enjoy MMA and hope to someday enter classes for Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu, or even both. But, I've made a promise to myself that I'd lose the weight first before taking that endeavor--so that I feel confident in my fitness level, and let's face it, so that I won't be worried about people judging me because of my heaviness.

Thank you for having this group, and I anticipate much hope in this new endeavor.
