Welcome to the Team Kim. I am glad that you are back at getting healthy. This journey won't always be easy or pleasant, but it will be worth it. Best advice is baby steps and realizing that each of our bodies are different so what will work for one of us won't necessarily work for you, so you must find what your body needs to drop those pounds and get back to a healthier you. I wish you the very best as you get it moving along.

Hi Kimberly! Glad you decided to reach out :) No need to apologize for being awkward lol, it makes us interesting :)

That's awesome that you are trying to cut back and cut things out, but we all hit roadbumps, it's just important to push forward.

All the outdoorsy things you named are things I all want to be able to do. I want to get into hiking and kayaking, but I can't get passed the stigma of being too big to. I'm working on it :)

Keep on being optimistic dear, you can definitely do this! Don't worry about being too shy - put yourself out there - we all want to lose weight here, and we all have our troubles, so that's already something most of us have in common. Don't fret :)

If you ever need anything, let me know.

It's funny that you mentioned perfection, because, erm, I'm a slight perfectionist! Haha, it's perfection or nothing with me! Though, I have to admit, there really is no way to be perfect while trying to lose weight and I'm handling that piece of information rather nicely (for a perfectionist, that is!)! :) :)

I'm a little awkward so I'm going to apologize in advance, haha!

I joined SparkPeople back in March because I've known for a while that my weight was out of control. I've mainly been reading the emails sent to my inbox but I've decided that maybe having a friend or just some support would be amazing, so here I am, making a post!

My name is Kimberly, I'm twenty-two years old, and I have about 120 pounds to lose. Right now I'm anywhere between 258 to 254, depending on the day. I haven't set any clear goals but I would LOVE to be under 200 pounds by the end of the year! I'd also love to be about 175 next March, but I'm not going to get be too heartbroken if my goals aren't met. My dad suffered a massive heart attack (that was fatal) at the age of 51 in January and that motivated me to become a healthier person. I cut out soda, coffee, and all things overly sugary. And, surprisingly, it was easy! I think the fear of dying at 51 and leaving two underage children (like my dad) motivated me a lot. But, well, my partner deployed in March for a month. When she came home, I threw caution to the wind and picked up my bad habits again. I'm currently trying to stop drinking coffee and soda, but nothing is a better motivator than a fresh death and I'm not succeeding like I did the first time. So far, I'm doing really well with the soda, I might slip up a few times a week but it isn't too bad, but I still love my coffee! I discovered I can drink coffee black but that doesn't mean I particular enjoy it (I mean, who doesn't love their coffee laced with enough sugar to send you into a coma?!). I'm trying really hard to start eating more fresh produce, less empty calories. Ideally, I want to try a vegan lifestyle but I'm not sure how realistic that is!

So, about me (besides the fact that I'm obese and trying to correct the issue). I love animals! Cats, dogs, birds, owls, fish, anything. I also adore my sailor! I've been with her for almost four years and I have to say that she's the most supportive person I've ever met! I want to be able to live a long and healthy life with her. I love exploring, spending my time at the beach, and walking along trails! I would absolutely love to be able to hike mountains and backpack across states. I really want to start kayaking but can't convince myself to buy a kayak, haha! At some point in the next year I want to run in a 5k. I'm battling serious depression but with a daily dose of exercise, I'm feeling more optimistic. Losing weight, for me, is way more than looking hot. I want to be mentally healthy and that's something I haven't been in a very, very long time. I self mutilated from the age of 14 to 20 and as soon as I stopped my scales jumped from 200 to 270 (scary!!!). I'm very shy and socially awkward so making friends here would be fan-freaking-tastic!

Anyways, it would be great to make some friends along this ride! Thanks for reading!
