Here are my 5:

1. I researched homeschooling for 2 years, even while sending our eldest to preschool for 2 years. I consider the book, "Top 100 Picks for Homeschool Curriculum," by Cathy Duffy, my most valuable resource next to my bible because it thoroughly guided me (through His guidance), to learning about my children's learning styles as well as my own! It helped my husband and I when we attended our first Homeschool Convention and we knew it was what God wanted for our family.

2. Due to a crazy high risk pregnancy this past year, I didn't homeschool for about 5 months or so. It is a blessing though, because we started this year doing K level school with My Father's World curriculum, (our son is 6, but born at the traditional cut-off point for public school, so he could be in K anyway) and our newly-turned-4 year old daughter is keeping right up, and in most of our school days, she's the one putting forth the most effort and doing amazingly well, while our son fights me daily about doing what he's told. LOL

3. I am having a LOT of trouble following through with a consistent schedule for school time with my kids. Lately, we've been fitting it in about twice a week, but accomplishing 2-3 days of work in one sitting. (Would love any advice on this! I may start a thread about it.)

4. I was raised in a Christian home, although we never attended church growing up because my parents were severely burned by a ministry early on that turned into a cult. They had gotten out when the Lord revealed the truth to them about it, but it scarred them and to this day do not attend any church. They fully supported me when I accepted the Lord on my own at 17 years old, are 100% supportive of us homeschooling.

5. I was bullied throughout my years growing up. It started at the hands of my 4th grade teacher, who I discovered just 2 years ago, that she was a raging alcoholic who would drink during morning recess and lunch time...I have forgiven her, but she was the reason I began to gain weight since I turned to food to cope with her emotional abuse. Her treatment of me set the path for my classmates and I was bullied up until my senior year of high school, only the severity waned in those last 2 years of high-school. In 4th grade through middle school was the worst, and I thought I wasn't worthy to be loved by God or anyone else, and as the torment ensued, I coped, not only with food, but I pulled out my eyelashes until my eyes were bare and would bleed. I handed in some papers that year with blood spots on them because this teacher refused to let me go to the bathroom to clean myself up. To this day, my eyelashes have never been the same and fall out so easily.

6. I know, the request is for 5, but I have one additional to contribute.
Despite all of this, the Lord has seen me through to now, I finally know who I am in Him, and I not only have the honor of homeschooling, but the Lord helped me accomplish a dream I had. I went back to school and became a certified personal trainer! I just finished my internship in October, so although I'm starting this journey over again, I completed something for the first time in my life, no longer giving in to what this teacher engrained in me, that I was and always would be a failure, and would never "get it."
I'm still a work in progress, but if I can finish that certification, I can FINALLY aim to finish this weight loss journey and not beat myself up for the hurdles I don't clear. As long as I get up and move forward again each day, then there is no truth that I am a failure.

I hope everyone realizes that too. Even if we have a bad week, month, year, all we have to do to keep from failing is get up and start again. Praising God for His constant love and support of all of us too.

Thanks for reading my novel! (Sorry!) LOL

Hi Julie!

You are going to do a wonderful job when you pull your 6th grader out. If he is already struggling,I would pull him out now so you can start disovering his learning style and so that he doesn't lose his love of learning.

Congrats on loving your co-op class. This semester I am in charge of a class that watches Magic schoolbus. Somedays I do well at finding an activities that the kids love that oordinates with the episode, others I fail miserably.

Ican sympathize greatly with the desire to lose weight. I am not content with my current weight, but content in knowing that I try my best with my diet.

1. I'm homeschooling my 5 year old. I'm also about to pull out my middle son ( 6th grade ) from public school. I'm VERY nervous.
2. I love to write stories and devotions but am terrible in grammar.
3. I'm teaching a homeschool co-op class for the first time this year. A science experiment class for K-2 grade. There are 15 kids and most of them are 5 years old. I LOVE it!
4. I am a Trek (6-8 grade) leader for AWANAS but am thinking of becoming the director for Sparks next year.
5- I so desperately want to lose weight and find myself again. I feel as though I have put everyone else first and have lost myself along the way.

Julie

I fall short often, I still haven't accomplished everything I planned for any one day since the start of our school year. But that doesn't stop us fromhaving a good time while trying to do it ;-)

I was bad with the daily learning notebook. I printed certain parts for use daily and used it to keep track of our attendance for the year. For other parts I used sheet protectors.

I also want to add that I think you are doing an incredible job. You not only are homeschooling many children, but working outside the home as well. I don't think I could balance all of that as well as you are. Keep up the good work!

Mary we must follow a lot of the same blogs because I recognize all the blog names, lol.

I do have the daily learning notebook, I just haven't decided if I'm going to get laminating sheets or use sheet protectors for parts of it. Plus I need some more binders.

My 5 yo is part of the day, I understand the overwhelming sensation there can be. Last year we utilized the daily learning notebook www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/b

to help keep the younger one engaged in learning activities while I worked with the others. I also entertained her by giving her playdough placemats (I can't find where I downloaded them from, but I will link it back when I do!) so that when I was working with older children I could have her shape playdough to letter, numbers, and shapes. It kept her quiet for small amounts of time.

I thought the playdough mats came from www.1plus1plus1equals1.com/Preschool

I have 3 that I have to do school with because I have to turn porfolios in for but the other three want to do school to and of course they need the most attention especially since child number 4 should be learning to read and count right now. Ages for all of them are almost 13, 11, 8, 7, 5, and 3.

How many are you schooling now? I have all 4 that I work with. I may not accomplish everything I desire every day, but I don't feel adding the 4th was that big of a challenge, but then again sh wants to do school.....
