Amanda- sorry to hear about the bullying experience but kudos to you for doing something about it. You have a hard road to travel but the reward will outweigh the bumps. My favorite Bible verse is Isaiah 42:16: I will lead the blind in ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them, I will turn darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These things I will do; I will not leave them undone.
God bless you in your new endeavors.

Amanda, Good for you for deciding to homeschool! My oldest son had Tourette's and was in a private Christian school, but the stress caused him to be suicidally depressed at age 10. I pulled him out the following year and homeschooled him for 6 years. He is now 19 and in his 3rd year at the community college finishing up an Information Technology - Networking degree. He is successful, happy, and most important of all, walking with the Lord (which I can't say for a lot of his public-schooled friends). I also homeschool my 16-yr-old son and 12-year-old daughter. Even though many days I feel inadequate, I wouldn't have it any other way!

emoticon There's a "best mom" (cause that's what I want it to be ;) crown for you for teaching your kids at home. I know how doubt-filled teaching a kid with learning difficulties can be, yet I am convinced that even with the problems we have what we are doing is soooo beyond better for my son than public school would be. My 3rd child is severely dyslexic, and through this, that, and the other I am in the position to have a good idea of what the local public schools would do with him and his issues. The biggest thing is that while he knows he has troubles with some things that other people find easy, he does NOT think he is "stupid". My dear friend's daughter, with no where near the level of difficulties my son has, was convinced she was stupid before Kindergarten was half over. It breaks my heart to think of 5 and 6 year old kids already doomed (through the system, their peers, and their own self esteem) to be "not smart" for the rest of their lives (I know that it is possible to bring these kids around to see themselves as smart once again, but the way the system is set up very, very few of them ever do).

Hi my name is Amanda and I am a 33 yr old SAHM and I home school. I have two special needs children. Tim, 8 yrs with Tourettes and Nicole, 12 yrs, with Aspergers. I withdrew my daughter from school mid-year 2009-2010 year due to bullying. My son finished out the year then I kept him home too. I want to make sure we all learn that Jesus Christ and not the world should be the center of our lives and education. I can do a better job teaching them than the public school system esp. with their special needs.

We are all trying to be healthier, eat better, and be more active which is why I joined SparkPeople. I can incorporate tons of new healthy ideas and activities into their home school curriculum.

When I do Spark, I choose SparkPeople. Stay Sparking, my friends!
