I joined this team some time ago. However, I have not been an active member. Today, I go in for lab work, and have decided that I might need an extra dose of motivation to continue doing the things necessary to keep my cholesterol in check.

We all have days when we blow it. The main thing is that we don't give up just because we have a bad day. We are not perfect nor is it realistic to assume we should be. emoticon

Welcome! Sounds like you have it pretty together, already. You're right about not wanting to be looking back at the past from the vantage point of a hospital bed thinking "I could have prevented this from happening to me."

I'm sitting here beating myself up because I just finished a taco salad for lunch that I made with regular ground beef instead of my usual comb of grass fed and black beans, and that included way too many tortilla chips. I got the cheese and veggies right, at least. I'm trying to make my mantra "Think before you start to eat" so I don't have regrets after but it takes a little time to grab hold. You might look for a mantra or two (or more) that work for you. Ben Franklin's "All things in moderation" is a good one but hard to put into action in this time of no penny candy or small cookies.

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.--Socrates

Hi! I'm new to the group (although not to SparkPeople). I have always sat mourning my weight but never truly committed to doing anything about it. However, I'm starting to figure out - in the front of my brain - that I don't want the healthy issues my parents struggle with because they didn't take care of themselves like I'm not taking care of myself. I am finally acknowledged what my doctor told me about my high cholesterol and hoping I can change the course before she puts me on the medication she has threatened to prescribe if I don't get it together. This time around I have focused more intently than before but I still have had a couple of instances where I have imploded. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and not beat myself up for not being perfect.
