Your sisters dietician sounds exactly like my first dietician! Does your sister live in NH?😊
Thanks so much for your post.

Unfortunately, some Dietitians are cr*p, but there are a lot of really good ones around.

I struck a bad one who actually refused to discuss MY needs with me, but felt it o.k. to blab on about me in a room full of people, but still wouldn't answer my questions. I managed to get a really good one a few years later, and haven't looked back since.

My Sister struck one who all she wanted to focus on was her Diabetes, and nothing to do with her other conditions which are affected by nutrition, including food allergies and Gall Bladder issues. She refused to give a calorie range/target, and told my sister to NOT pay any attention to them OR track them, (even tho' she has weight issues) but then turned around and told her to eat 45 carbs at every meal. I mean, how can you track how many carbs you have eaten if you don't don't track your food.

I am also Stage 3. Today I was also told that I have significant degeneration of the discs between my vertabrae plus significant arthritis in the joints (facets) between the vertabrae. I will be away until July 1, so an MRI will be scheduled nfor then. I am a bit overwhelmed by all these health challenges. Thank goodness that I am now retired. One day at a time!

Glad you're getting to change dieticians, since diet will be very important to you from now on. I have stage 3 kidney disease and haven't had to change my diet for it, but I think we're all different enough that what works for me may not work for you. One thing I've found out: any infection (a cold, the flu, a UTI, stomach bug) can throw my electrolytes off and I end up dehydrated and unable to get back into balance by myself. Blood sugars are effected by infections, too, so be aware and don't be too hesitant about going to an urgent care or ER if you feel weak and light headed.

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.--Socrates

Good, I had one I hated too. Made my husband come in to my second appointment and quiz her so I could get real facts, not just eat this at this amount. My first appointment, I was rather depressed and wanting to eat everything she said not to eat. She had no sympathy and did the you will do what is best for the baby line. You can't just cut what a pregnant woman is eating in half and remove many items they like from the eating list. You have to be willing to work with the diabetic, not lecture/preach to.

I saw one who was useless. She knew nothing about kidney disease, just gave me a book about controlling carbs. After 3 visits I gave up on her. My primary doctor now has referred me to another dietician, who I will see July 26. 😁

Ask to see a dietician. Doctors should refer you to one and she/he can help you determine what to eat and what not to eat and how much to eat. When I had gestational diabetes (diabetes while pregnant), they had me see a dietician.

Although I am a Sparkler I was just diagnosed with diabetes and now have joined Living with
diabetes. I also have fibromyalgia, Stage 3 chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure and my cholesterol has risen, despite taking 5 mg. Of Lipitorr nighlly. My challenge is to find a dietary lifestyle that takes all these restrictions into consideration.
