Been over 8 years since I was on Sparkpeople. Needing help tracking, motivating, etc. . . In 2014 I had a heart attack where the needed to put in a stent. I'm on a statin, blood thinners, bp meds, and something more, it's late can't remember it. Doc has been on my case about losing weight and getting exercise. Finally decided I really really really need to do something. I'm not gaining, but I'm also not losing. So Cmas is over, all the treats are out of the house. Time to get it together. emoticon

So far I haven't had any side effects that I know of, except some insomnia, however I find that I do sleep better when I've moved a bit for the day (walking and stuff).

Can't take the statins, but with diet and exercise my numbers are getting better all the time.

It is discouraging to hear you need to take a statin. If you can tolerate the statins they are definitely the most effective way to improve your cholesterol levels. I could not tolerate statins and have found it helpful in lowering my LDL to take 18g of Metamucil Powder daily. You can check with your doctor for sure but I don't think it will interfere with the statins. Good luck!

So... I've been a member for some while. I've been on and off since. Now I've received the news no one likes to hear and I have to do something about it. I've been put on a statin,I have to exercise more, and eat less of what I'm already eating. Good news is my triglycerides are down! But my cholesterol is high (234) and my LDL is high (162). This is scary news for me, I'm too young to have this kind of issues. My food intake isn't all that bad and I rarely eat outside the home. I prefer fresh unboxed foods. :( Very depressing.

I also found Runkeeper which I will use because it has a walk feature and connects to SP.

That's me in a nutshell.
