Welcome back. You can jump right in and work hard at this or you can ease in and find ways to trick yourself into doing what's good for you. Doesn't matter. The point is to change to a healthier lifestyle for yourself, your wife, and especially for the kidlets.

So maybe put a kitchen chair in front of the TV when you are going to watch some thing and do some sitting kicks and leg raises, some bicep curls and triceps curls, some seated rows. Maybe take 2 minutes 3 times a day to do 10 jumping jacks, do 3 squats each time you get up out of a chair. It's not hard.

Hello, All! My name is Tom. OK, there is the short version of my introduction, so feel free to stop reading now. For those who are more stalwart of soul, feel free to read on!

I guess I値l start with where I am now. I致e used Sparkpeople in the past, with varying levels of success. My most recent go at it, under another screen name, did pretty well for a while, and then I found all the weight that I had lost. I知 sitting now at about 306 (as of yesterday morning). Of course there are all of the health factors attendant with obesity用rediabetes, high LDL, low HDL, sore knees, etc.

So, what am I hoping to do about it? I致e gone back and forth about that, and as of now my plans are pretty nebulous. I know I壇 like to get down to below 200 pounds, and stay there. I honestly have not thought much about it, but when my DW (dear wife) bought me a fitbit for Father痴 day, I figured I should begin thinking about it.
Right now I知 starting slowly. In the past my best weight loss luck has always been on the Atkins program, or other low-carb variant, so I think I知 headed that way. But right now I知 only making 2 promises to myself. I知 going to track everything I eat or drink (just the act of tracking will have me eating better and snacking less). Over the weeks, I値l probably move more to a low-carb lifestyle, probably move into induction.

As for exercise (hey, I just got a FitBit, I need to start exercising, right?). I知 not going to jump into 10,000 steps a day. I知 honestly not sure how I値l get all of that in. I am going to do a couple of things: 1) Since my FitBit tracks flights of stairs, I値l plan on climbing my stairs 5 times in a row, twice a day, over the next week; 2) My wife and I recently bought a set of Leslie Sansone痴 展alk Away the Pounds, (it is an old set, the one with 1-mile, 2-mile, and 3-mile walks). My DW and I have used this together in the past. I also have a 泥DP YOGA DVD set. I知 hoping to do a Leslie Sansone workout at least twice a week with my DW, and a DDP YOGA session at least twice a week (probably won稚 start that until next week). I also bought a copy of the WII game 展alk it Out. It痴 a silly game, but kinda fun, and will get me some more steps if I play with it. I noticed that there EA Sports came out with an EA Sports Active 2. I really liked the workouts in the first, but was SO frustrated with the controller problems with the first I got rid of it. I may eventually, assuming I get myself to a basic fitness level, get EA Sports 2, and begin using it.

So, Only 3 promises to myself this week:
1) Track and be aware of everything I eat.
2) Climb my stairs 5 times, twice a day.
3) Wear my FitBit (easy to do, as I needed a new watch anyway), and be aware of any other exercise I may do.
Anything else I do is gravy (low-cal, low-carb, gravy).

I値l try to check in, post thoughts, on a fairly regular basis, as well as be semi-active in the group.

I壇 love to 杜eet some of you on a more regular basis online.

2 final points:
1) I知 a Christian, trying to spend time in the Word daily, and teaching at my Church Small Group. My relationship with Christ is more important to me than weight, but I am coming to the conclusion that there is sin (e.g. gluttony, sloth) involved in my obesity. So my weight loss/fitness journey MAY be connected to my Spiritual journey (still working through that).

2) I知 beginning to enjoy gardening. We have these 2 massive trees in my back yard that shade the best soil areas, so I致e been frustrated in my gardening efforts in the past. This year I知 exploring hydroponics outside, and am thus far really happy with the results. Love to discuss gardening with anyone here.

That痴 about it for now. Oh yes, I知 51, my DW is a bit younger (38), and I have 3 kidlets, ages 9, 10, and 12.
