Hi from North-Central West Virignia! I'm new to SparkPeople. This is my first official day! I'm a mom to 2 girls (ages 27 & 24) and 1 boy (age 22), Nana to 4 boys (ages, 7, 6, 2 & almost 2) and 1 girl (age 4), and wife to a retired US Navy Submarine sailor that I've been married to for almost 28 years! I am also Type-2 Diabetic with high cholesterol. I finally made up my mind last month that it's time for me to turn my life around and starting eating right and exercising! I have been exercising (treadmill & dumbbell exercises) for 2 weeks now straight and I feel so much better! I look forward to support from others that are going through the same!

DH and I have high cholesterol. We are taking fishing oil and avoiding the statins because of the side effects. Needless to say the doctor is irritated.

Healthy living that includes fitness as well as healthy foods take time and effort. It takes time and effort to figure out what kind of fitness you like and can do. The same applies to healthier eating. It takes time to learn how to tweak our recipes so they taste good but are still healthy or experiment with new recipes and sort out the ones we like that are nutritious. We also need to learn how to be patient and understanding with ourselves when we get off our program. So be prepared to get back on when you fall off as it will happen. Learning how to do this will take time and patience so be prepared to practice patience with yourself. I know I am still a work in progress but I haven't given up. I also know my efforts have paid off big time and yours will too. emoticon

Welcome. Take your time and get to know the site. Track what you're currently eating and the exercise you've been getting before setting goals and moving forward. It works better when you have an idea of where you're starting from.

Hi all,
