Nice to hear from you, DMS1946! Good job losing the initial 55 lbs - and keeping it off for 4 years is amazing! I understand the stress of caregiving. I took on that role with my mother in May of 2014. She was stable in Assisted Living for all of 2015. Last month we sold her car. Now she's in a downward spiral. Anyway, enough of that! I'm hoping that you, Clarissa and I can form a mini-support group and help each other out. DMS and I are definitely emotional eaters. How about you, Clarissa?

Hi Clarissa - very nice to "meet" you! My cholesterol also came down my last check-up. I'd like to get it down more and keep it there. I've been struggling with being overweight for going on 20 years now. I just read a blog, here on Spark People, about someone who says they "CAN do hard things." Looking back over my life, I've certainly done a lot of hard things. I guess that means I CAN do this. And if I can do this, so can you! Are you using any particular techniques? What's your biggest stumbling block? Mine is my sweet tooth - whenever there are sweets around I just can't stay away from them. I do pretty well with portion control at meal time (when I put my mind to it), but when it comes to sweets - no control whatsoever.
Laurie

Thanks. I just read a blog about someone who knows they "can do hard things." Sounds like a good mantra to me!

Clarissa-Spark Pages give us a chance to learn a bit more about each other. I noticed you have yours private which means we can't do so in your case. If you care to share it I would enjoy reading yours.

I am in the same boat as both of you (Clarissa and Laurie). The good news is I have lost 55 lbs and kept most of it off for over 4 years which is great. I also regularly exercise. However I have been under a lot of stress as a caregiver since December 2015 and I find myself gaining a few pounds in response to the additional stress. This is not good since I still need to lose another 40 lbs and see my BP creeping upward. I can eat really healthy for a few days, then I get stressed out and venture away. In a nutshell I need some support. However I also look forward to giving support. I especially want to congratulate Clarissa for getting her cholesterol down.

Hi! I'm Laurie. I am 59 years old and about 50 lbs overweight. I want to get my weight under control before it causes me serious health problems. My goal is to lose a couple of pounds a week by eating more healthy food and less comfort food and by becoming more active. I'd like to meet some like-minded people on this site that I can work together with by coaching and encouraging each other.
