Thanks so much for your encouragement. One baby step at a time. I'll get there and hopefully get off all of these meds. Thanks again.

SWDBUCKLEY- alias Vicki!
I have never posted to this group, but your post tells my story. High cholesterol is in my family. I am not currently taking meds; trying to improve my numbers naturally.
2 months ago I logged into Sparkpeople (which I hadn't done in years) because my body ached so badly.
There is a tracker for cholesterol on your nutrition tracker. As far as exercise goes, please don't give up. The first day I walked a mile, it took me 40 minutes and I was out of breath. My progress was very slow, but I can now do a mile in 15 minutes with little trouble. I also like the Walk At Home videos. Take baby steps and NEVER GIVE UP! You have plenty to offer!

Thanks for your advice. I will try walking indoors first and I'll let you know how I do after a week. I certainly am a person who appreciates any help out there which will help me lose some lbs. and cholesterol. I know genetically I have many health issues which don't help me, however, by reaching out to people like yourself who have the knowledge to make it happen for me, perhaps I can get to a point where I don't have to take the host of pills to get myself healthy. Thanks again for your advice.

SWDBuckley, welcome. I think you'll like this site. Just don't rush into things too quickly. Take time to track what you're doing now and decide on a small change you want to start with. We need little successes to keep us going. In the end they all add up to the big success we crave.

If you don't want to walk outdoors, you can find many walking videos on YouTube to walk with. Just start out at 1 mile and don't beat yourself up if you can quite keep up. You'll get there.

The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.--Socrates

Hi, I am new to the team and I apologize I don't have much to offer. High cholesterol runs in my family and I really don't seem to have many choices to eat therefore, breakfast is usually a slim fast, usually I don't have lunch and dinner is whatever I choose to cook for the family limiting any cheese which is their favorite. Last night we had a pork roast with mashed potatoes, carrots, corn, green beans and applesauce. (I limit a spoonful of potatoes for myself). I had a snack of peaches and coconut.
I would welcome any diet recommendations. I really don't like to exercise, but yesterday, the doctor insisted I walk. I weigh 150 lbs according to the Doctor's scale and 145 at home. I need to loose weight as I feel horrible. Any help is sincerely appreciated.

Breakfast is a hard one for me because I don't eat eggs but if you do that may be a good place to start. Maybe try all the different kinds of omelets out there (there are a lot). Snacks are hard too. This BBC site offers many ideas and recipes:

I only use olive oil on my salads so I'm no help there.

Oh, by the way, Welcome to the team.

I am now introducing myself to LOW GLYCEMIC food choices.
Does anyone have good ideas about breakfast choices and lunch. I can figure out the evening meals ok.
What about snacks?????????
What about GOOD salad dressings either to make or already prepared?????
