Hi Kim, welcome to the team.

It's hard to keep on track when there's a sabotage eater in the house. I hate to say it but you'll need all the willpower you can muster because he'll need to figure out he needs to change by himself.

Maybe if you point him towards Spark people and show him some of the male teams that are on here so he realizes that men are here as well.

Hope it all works out for you and I hope you like it here emoticon emoticon emoticon

So good that you are working in animal welfare but in order to do them good you need to take care of yourself as well. Lots of good advice here so I won't repeat but emoticon and good luck.

Good to see you here. Be sure and use the nutrition tracker, and fitness tracker. You can track your FitBit with Spark People, but right now the company Spark People goes through is down, and doing a maintenance. There is some type of problem they are trying to resolve. Check out this link.

I hope the situation with your Hubby gets resolved. Maybe you should have a heart to heart talk with him, if you haven't already. You never know, further down the road, he might get interested in using Spark People. I have seen it happen. emoticon

emoticon Kim and emoticon to the team. It sounds as though you have some big issues to work around. No matter how wonderful he is not able to understand what you need to do with your eating and that makes it difficult. You can do it though and a word to help is for you to stay very active on SparkPeople as there is a wealth of information and many, many people for a support system. Hang in there and you will make your goals. Best wishes on your journey to a healthier lifestyle.

My name is Kim and I joined SP a long time ago and was not very active, so trying it again! I have weight to lose and am trying to get back on the wagon. I had RNY surgery 6 years ago and dropped about 103lbs but never got below 200lbs. I have since put about 45 pounds back on and I am not feeling great about myself personally. I felt really good a few years ago when the weight was dropping, but I was only working part-time so when I would get off work at 12:30, I went right to the gym and would work out for minimally 2 hours, five days a week. I was running 5ks as well, albeit slowly! Just over three years ago, I went into animal welfare full-time and my gym time now required much more planning. Any of you in the field know how exhausting saving lives can be and many evenings, after getting out of work late, I am just too tired to think. So it has become a habit to not work out, other than occasionally walking 2.5 miles with my dogs maybe twice a week.
So, it isn't good enough and I need to do better. A small part of my current issues is that my husband can be a sabotager. He will know I am trying to eat better and just as an example, today, we were out enjoying the beautiful day and we stopped a roadside restaurant for a snack. I ordered hummus with veggies which he was splitting with me and then he ordered an appetizer of sweet potato fries with maple syrup and melted marshmallow. He was then annoyed when I did not eat any of his food of choice. Yes, he has his own weight issues and he is diabetic but he is a good man who is very good to me. I just struggle with him in this area.
Anyway, enough rambling. I use a FitBit to track my activity and have it synced to My Fitness Pal. Not sure if SP has a way to sync to it or not but will have to explore that. I don't think I can lose this weight and stay on track without conversation and support, so I look forward to getting to know everyone!
