First of all, welcome, newbies!

My mom was my leader for 12 years. I earned my Gold Award in 1992. There are still things I bring up about being the leader's daughter that was AWFUL, but I also don't believe I would have stuck with scouting like I did if my mom hadn't been the leader. By high school there were only 4 of us in the troop and I'm not sure we would have been friends if it wasn't for scouts. We truly had that sisterly relationship where we could tear each other down, but if ANYBODY else said one negative thing about another we went off the deep end.

Well, this many years later my fellow scout friend and best adult friend is now my co-leader of my daughter's (going to be 3rd grade) Brownie troop. The morale of the story is she is the mother of 4 boys. Three of them are in Boy Scouts, but she thinks it is important for the boys to have male role models and for the girls to have female. I could NOT do the troop without her with everything else I have in my life - mom, wife, teacher, grad student, mentor. She is priceless to me and I appreciate that she is there because of her feelings towards scouts. She brings something unique to scouting since she is not there as a mom doing her "mom duty" as I feel that I am a good chunk of the time.

I hope this gives you something to think about.

I think for my duaghter it became hard for her to be the "leaders duaghter", you probably all have stories to share on that topic, when they are younger it is great to be the daughter of the leader they are so proud, then it changes and it becomes uncool, and she was getting teased, by fellow girl scouts, she was always jealous of the attention I gave the other girls as well...so many issues that need to be addressed. I may just have her go back as a scout and just be a mom, maybe a whole new troop that does not know us. What are your thoughts, fellow girl scout mommies/daddies???

I commend you for letting them go with their dad, because that would be soooooo hard!

My daughter wanted to quit scouts and I told her she could, but I wasn't. That was two years ago. She's still in scouts. As she gets older she likes it more because she gets more freedom and the little girls love her. She just doesn't want anyone to know that she is a scout. If you have time and you like it, keep doing it. I love it. I like the social aspect too.

Hi Carroll,
Well their father is a really good dad, so it is a little different, I always felt it important that they have a relationship with him, especially if it was positive which it is.
I also was trying to get my house ready to potentially sell, but you know what happened (and still is happening) to the real estate market.
So now in the house it will just be me and my oldest son...
I am trying to decide if I wish to continue being a leader for the next year and really joined this group to work that question out....

So thank you and to all you for listening.

Wow-I would cry! My 14 yo son wants to live w his dad too. I refuse. His dad can't take care of himself let alone a teenage boy. He lives a mile away anyway. He spends a lot of his time there the way it is. When school starts he will be at my house on school nights.

Welcome to the team. Good luck on all your life journeys.

Hi my name is Robin,
I am a single mom of three children, my oldest is graduating high school, he wishes to work rather then go to college, is this the part where I cry??
My middle son is 13 will be graduating middle school, he just let me know he wishes to go live with his dad for the school year (his dad lives in Ohio and I live in Las Vegas, Nevada) is this the part that I cry??
My youngest daughter Elizabeth is the reason I got into scouting she is 11 years old and finishing elementary school this year, she decided she wanted to live with her dad for the school year, gave up scouts etc. This is the part I really cry...

I continued being the leader as I co-founded the troop 5 years ago with my coleader. It has been fun, exhausting, great, and has had ups/downs I am sure you can all relate. I can not wait to meet you all and share stories with you, as I feel we can all learn from each other. Normally I am very optimistic just going through a lot of lifestyle changes including getting healthy/fit and joined SP in Feb of this year....

Welcome to SP as well as GIRL SCOUTING. emoticon

I want to get to a healthy weight and stay there forever. I don't have to make huge changes all at once, just small ones consistently.

I am a 35y old mom of 2. My daughter is a brownie this year and this is also my first year as a leader. I was in scouts for 12y and had a wonderful time. Being the leader has been exciting but I am ready for summer to begin. I can't wait to get to know everyone.
